New rumors suggest that Sony and LEGO may be collaborating to produce aLego Horizongame based onHorizon Forbidden Westand presumablyHorizon Zero Dawnby extension. No official information about the game has been revealed, butLEGO Horizonhas the potential to be one of the most fun and story-focused LEGO games to date.

LEGO’s Connection with Horizon

LEGO, Sony, andHorizon’sdevelopers Guerrilla Games have already collaborated before. In May 2022, LEGO released an official 1,222-piece set of the colossal Tallneck with a mini Watcher and an Aloy minifigure following the release ofHorizon Forbidden West. The $89.99 set got an overwhelmingly positive reaction to the point that it sold out on the LEGO site.

No otherLEGO Horizonsets have been made since then, but fans have already produced mock sets of other post-apocalyptic machines, fromthe iconic Thunderjaw to the deadly Corruptor.Given fans' desire to see more sets made, aLEGO Horizonvideo game could be the perfect launch point to produce more official sets.Horizon’s awe-inspiring animalistic machines are ripe for the LEGO treatment.

LEGO Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West

LEGO games have long been known to produce fun, comedic puzzle games based on popular film franchises and comic universes. Developed primarily by TT Games, the Warner Bros. subsidiary has never produced an adaptation of a popular video game franchise, withthe exception of 2009’sLEGO Rock Band.

Recent LEGO games have embraced the open-world structure, becoming gigantic collectathons filled with numerous side quests and characters to unlock. ALego Horizongame could be structured as a combination ofLEGO Jurassic WorldandLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. The entire game could merge a simplistic version of bothZero DawnandForbidden West’s regions and allow players to play as machines to traverse the map.

Other video games have been featured in another TT LEGO game but weren’t made into full adaptions. In 2015’sLEGO Dimensions, several video games are featured, includingMidway Arcade,Portal 2, andSonic the Hedgehog.

Playable Machines and Sidequests

TT could bolster the character pool with playable machines similar to how players could play as various dinosaurs inJurassic World. Larger machines could play similarly to vehicles, with one player “driving” the machine and another operating its vast arsenal of weapons. They could even include a new version ofthe dinosaur customizer fromJurassic Worldto allow players to create their own machines, such as a hybrid of a Deathbringer and a Tallneck.

In terms of mission structure, each mission could be located at an important location such as Sunfall’s Sun-Ring. From here, linear story missions could be accessed while smaller side quests could be accessed elsewhere. For example, one story mission at the beginning of theForbidden Westsection of the game could be focused on avoiding a rampaging Slitherfang similar to how players had to avoid T-Rexes inLEGO Jurassic World. Meanwhile,Cauldrons could remain as intricate mazes and puzzlesas a way for players to unlock playable machines instead of accessing machine override codes.

LEGO games have always featured co-op multiplayer, butHorizonhas always been a single-player game. In many missions, Aloy is the only character seen. To rectify this issue, perhaps a second player could embody overridden machines such asBurrowers, Clawstriders, or Watcherswhen another human character is unavailable. Of course, once free play is unlocked for story missions, player twos could play as whoever they want so long as they can fit in the setting.

LEGO Horizon and Beyond

ALEGO Horizongame has a lot of potential. It could be a bridge for younger gamers to get interested in the amazing world ofHorizon Forbidden Westand launch a new wave of complex LEGO sets never seen before, such as a giant LEGO Horus set. It could even set a standard for future LEGO adaptations of other beloved video game franchises, such as the long desired officialLEGOHalovideo game. Gamers will just have to wait and see what LEGO has in store for their gaming future.
