One-way roads are a valuable tool inCities: Skylines 2. By forcing vehicles to move in only one direction, they reducethe number of vehicles blocking trafficby exiting a building and encourage through traffic to stick to the major two-way roads.

Players can build one-way roads from the start ofCities: Skylines 2, and each road size comes with its own set of one-way options when they unlock. However, players need to tell the game which direction they want a one-way road to go in when they build or replace a road, and the method for doing so is slightly different compared to the original game.

How to Replace Two-Way Roads in Cities: Skylines 2

Replacing existing roads works the same as it did inCities: Skylines. In the road construction tool, players can choose between several tool modes. The last one, “Replace,” allows players to swap in any kind of road with any other kind of road. Players may need to move service buildings around if the new road is thinner or wider than the old road, but overall, it’s a very convenient function.

This function also allows players to swap between two-way and one-way roads or add more or fewer lanes. For instance, the road above was a two-lane, two-way road, but using the replacement tool, it became a three-lane, one-way road that goes to the left.

Cities Skylines 2 Road Way Swap

In the firstCities: Skylines, players could swap the direction of a one-way roadby clicking on the replacement tool a second time. This function doesn’t work in the sequel, which makes it easier to avoid swapping a road direction when adjusting a neighborhood street.

Instead, players must activate the replacement tool, select the one-way road type they want, and then click and hold on a road segment. While holding the button, players must move the cursor in the direction they want traffic to move.

The arrows above the road should swap to face the desired direction. Do this for each road segment until the whole stretch faces the right direction. If players miss a segment, a warning popup should appear over it.

One last warning is thatthe road construction tool has a new featurewhere it remembers what tool mode it was in separately for each road size. Keep this in mind to avoid replacing a feeder road with a tiny one-way residential street when trying to expand a neighborhood.

Cities: Skylines 2is available now on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
