APokemon Scarlet and Violetplayer has created an image that spotlights a huge missed opportunity with Pokemon evolutions up to Gen 9.Pokemon Scarlet and Violetintroduced Gen 9 when they were released last month, and although there have been issues highlighted by thePokemoncommunity, one fan has a unique take on how things could’ve been done differently.

Reddit user CorsairVI recently shared an image of two lines of Pokemon, with one row reflecting what appears to be evolutions of the other, with a notation that none of them are evolutionarily related. Ahead of the launch ofPokemon Scarlet and Violet, somenew Pokemon like Wiglettwere leaked to give players an idea of what to expect from the new region of Paldea before the games came out. While manyPokemonfans automatically assumed that Wiglett was related to the Diglett family upon its official reveal, the Paldean Pokemon isn’t a regional variant, nor is it related to the similar-looking Gen 1 version, a confusion that CorsairVI expresses in their post.

CorsairVI’sPokemonimage shows a top row of Tauros, Luvdisc, Torkoal, and Whiscash in that order juxtaposed by a bottom line of Bouffalant, Alomomola, Turtonator, and Dondozo. Pointing to a shared aesthetic of the mirrored Pokemon in their image, CorsairVI infers that Tauros should evolve into Bouffalant, Luvdisc should turn into Alomomola, Torkoal should become Turtonator, and Whiscash should transform to be Dondozo. Not only do thesePokemon seem based on the same species of animals, but their color schemes are largely alike except for Torkoal and Turtonator who are flat and have vibrant colors respectively.

ThePokemonevolution image from CorsairVI has garnered over 34,600 upvotes from Reddit users that largely agree with their idea of some Pokemon should evolve into others that already exist. Beyond the visual similarities between the aforementioned Pokemon, there are alsoshiny Pokemonthat may further make relating the two more appropriate. Another thing that the Pokemon listed by CorsairVI have in common is the lack of evolutions which suggests that it could’ve been possible to have their idea come to fruition when the later GenPokemonwere introduced to the Pokedex.

As manyPokemon Scarlet and Violetfans have expressed their agreement with CorsairVI, some suggested that Gen 5Pokemonspecifically had some designs that were meant to be evolutions. The top response to CorsairVI’s post stated that Torkoal doesn’t need to be any better incompetitivePokemonbattlesthan it already is, while one fan of the series stated that there should be a convergentPokemongame in the future.
