While the Java Edition ofMinecrafthas plenty of blocks and items in its inventory, a select handful from the somewhat forgottenEducation Editioncould easily find themselves in the main game. Even with the odd, scientific edge to most of the items found in the Education Edition, the more magical side of Java more than enough explains their existence.
Some of the items fromMinecraft’s Education Edition, like bleach and the various periodic elements, definitely don’t fit with the somewhat fantasy game that Java is, but the items would instantly fit into the world and even lead to new features. With so many blocks and items from Education, the following ten are certainly missed in the Java edition.
10Glow Stick
A Simple Fun Light Source
With a large majority ofplayers using modsfor dynamic lighting in vanilla settings, including the glow stick in the Java Edition could offer a fun, if potentially more expensive, portable light source.
The glow stick, which can be turned on and off and has certain durability, comes in every dye color possible, offering customizable light sources. As it currently exists, the glow stick doesn’t offer dynamic lighting, but given the limited uses for the item, introducing it as a special and unplaceable light source would be perfect.
9Balloons
Creative Way To Move Mobs
A seemingly simple item, the balloon is a potentially shocking upgrade to the lead, if not just a fun base decoration item. Made of helium, latex, and dye, balloons could easily offer a way for easier vertical movement in Java.
As the item would suggest, a balloon pulls any attached peaceful mobs up into the sky to the point that both will despawn unless the balloon is popped.For players with larger or taller basesor for players who want to send their friends' pets up and away, the balloon offers versatility.
8Sparkler
Great Potential For A Dynamic Lighting Source
The sparkler operates much like the glow stick, functioning currently as just a fun item for those playing on Education Edition that lights up on demand. While it offers fewer color options, the sparkler could easily be another dynamic light source and a cheaper option as well.
Since the sparkler is instantly destroyed if the player holding it goes underwater, along with limited durability, it could easily function as a cheap source of dynamic lighting, possibly made of just dye and gunpowder. Perfect for players celebrating events on servers, the sparkler’s use could range from decoration to fully functional.
7Chalkboard
More Options Beyond A Sign
Signs on Minecraft servers are an integral part of shopkeeping, lore building, and more. While signs have recently gotten updates with the introduction of glow ink and the ability to edit placed signs, the most glaring issue with the signs remains obvious: their limited size.
Chalkboards, the perfect sign equivalent for the school-focused Education Edition, could easily fit into Java as they boast both varying sizes and a solid black backdrop, as opposed to the usual wooden backing.
6Ice Bomb
Potential Both In Exploration And Combat
The Frost Walker enchantment, while useful, is often too rare for players to make actual use of before finding better options like the elytra. The ice bomb presents a great opportunity for a portable and craftable way to make temporary ice blocks to traverse on or for PvP-minded players and fights.
While ice bombs are currently made with sodium acetate, a real item obtainable in Education Edition, swapping in Java crafting ingredients wouldn’t be too farfetched. Given how much utility this seemingly simple item offers, having it in the more magically inclined Java would make just as much sense.
5Camera, Portfolio, And Photos
The Upgrade Needed For Paintings
While it’s extremely easy to take screenshots in Minecraft, the addition of the camera would only improve how group photos on servers or other commemorative photoshoots are done. Along with the portfolio and photo items, the introduction of true photographywould only add to customization.
With photos being placed in books and the portfolio, the ability to easily share saved images with other players would be invaluable on servers. If photos could be stretched into painting frames, the ability to decorate bases and locations would instantly improve.
4Colored Torches
An Opportunity For Colored Lighting
The demand for colored lighting inMinecrafthas always existed and will continue to exist into the future, and while actual colored lighting is currently little more than a dream in the game, the existence of colored torches could lead to something wonderful.
Coming in purple, blue, green, and red, the colored torch offers different colored lighting sources beyond oranges and soul fire blues. The only way to truly perfect the introduction of such torches would be the inclusion of appropriately colored surrounding lighting.
3Underwater TNT
Easier Undersea Explosions
There may be numerous ways totransform underwater locations,but rarely are these methods actually convenient or non-resource intensive. The most exciting option, of course, would be a special form of TNT that works underwater without much effort. With the existence of conduits and various potion effects, underwater TNT would only add to players wanting to expand their bases through the watery depths.
2Underwater Torch
Straightforward Underwater Lighting
There may be plenty of lighting blocks that work underwater, but often, options like sea lanterns and glowstone blocks are only available far later in the game. For players trying to explore shipwrecks or underwater ruins early on, actually seeing in the murky depths can be tricky.With how accessible the basic torch is,a version that can work in water would be perfect.
Since the underwater torch in Education Edition works somewhat like a flare, as it sparkles underwater, there is some logic to it functioning in water. Much like soul fire torches, having more options for simple lighting only adds to the early game.
1Hardened Glass
The Convenient Glass Block
The most annoying aspect of designing and building a base inMinecraftis almost certainly using glass at any time. Making and placing glass isn’t an issue in the slightest, but should that block of glass be misplaced, and the player doesn’t have silk touch yet, destroying resources with each simple error is maddening.
Hardened glass functions like normal glass, being mostly transparent, but with the benefit of turning into a block when broken instead of just shattering. Whether early on in a world or for players who don’t want to swap between two kinds of pickaxe whenever they place a block, the addition of hardened glass would simplify the building process for every player.
