Joker: Folie à Deuxis a sequel to 2019’s widely acclaimedJokermovie, which was written through the collaborative efforts of Scott Silver and Todd Phillips, who also directed the critically acclaimed comic book movie.It starred Joaquin Phoenixin the lead role and followed Arthur Fleck’s transformation into the titular character, laying out an alternative, deeply felt origin story for the popular DC comic villain and telling the story from his point of view. The sequel is set to directly continue the plot from the first film, leading to intense fan interest.

The report fromThe Hollywood Reporterspecifies that Lofland will be playing a key supporting role in the upcoming movie, taking on the role of an unnamed inmate at Arkham Asylum, a special location in the Joker’s wider canon and the rumored main setting of the upcoming film. This character is set to befriend and form a relationship with Phoenix’s Arthur, though the nature and extent of this role are still unclear. Lofland, who has starred in such projects as the 2013 independent filmMudopposite stars Matthew McConaughey and Tye Sheridan, joins the returning Phoenix, Phillips, and Silver as well as newer hires that have been revealed sinceJoker 2was confirmed in June.
