The popular action role-playing game series ofKingdom Heartsis no stranger to fan theories. Though Square Enix game director Tetsuya Nomura has reiterated thatKingdom Hearts 3would be theend of the title’s Dark Seeker story arc, many fans who were able to finish all the games are likely still confused by some parts of the story, leading them to speculate and theorize about the plot. Recently, another fan noticed an interesting detail about the cover art of the firstKingdom Heartsgame that possibly alludes to one of the most important turning points in the story.

Two years after the conclusion of the most recent game, theKingdom Heartsseries is finally launching for the PCon Epic Games Store this March 2021. This means thatKingdom Heartsfans who do not own any of the platforms that the games were originally released on will finally be able to witness Sora’s adventures with Donald and Goofy. But with more players hopping into theKingdom Heartsfandom, more fan discussions and theories about the immersive yet confusing plot will most likely pop up within the community.

On Reddit, user jewfrojay recently posted that they noticed something aboutthe originalKingdom Heartscover art for the PlayStation 2. They noted that the main protagonist Sora, his childhood friend Kairi, and adventure sidekicks Donald and Goofy were all turned to face toward the artwork’s light source. This leaves Sora’s other childhood friend Riku the only character not to have his face turned towards the light.

Other Reddit users also commented on the thread with their own opinions about the cover art. One stated that though they never noticed that specific detail on the original PlayStation 2 case, they already had a hunch thatRiku would turn evil in the firstKingdom Heartsgame. Another user commented that they also noticed that Riku had his eyes closed, which possibly indicates how far removed he is from the light. Given how the main plot of theKingdom Heartsseries is heavily centered around the balance of light and darkness, this provides great foresight to Riku’s role in the first game.

With all of the games releasing on the PC by the end of this month, fans who have always wanted to know the buzz behindKingdom Heartswill finally get the chance to sate their curiosity. Hopefully they will be able to understand the plot a lot more, now that they have full access to all of the games, which is likely a far cry from the experience of long-time fans who have waited years to be able to play the next title in the series.

TheKingdom Heartsseries will be available on PC on July 11, 2025.
