A prominent leaker was asked to comment on a rumored newSpyrogame’s development, but they don’t have any good news to share. Rumors have been swirling about the resurgence ofSpyrosince the release of theSpyro Reignited Trilogyin 2018. Yet the rumors have largely been uncertain of what’s really happening with theSpyrofranchise, despite the success of the remasters. If what the leaker has to say is true, that may be because the rumors aren’t reliable at all.The latestSpyrorumor and the subject of the current discussion comes from YouTuber Candianguyehh. In a recent video, the YouTube says they heard anewSpyrogamewas development in 2020. The language used is apparently important, and Candianguyehh describes it as “technically speculative.” They then say they did not say theSpyrogame is still in development, though they assume that it is.RELATED:Crash 4, Spyro Remaster Dev Teasing New GameThis statement was passed on to Sylux, a prominent and often reliable leaker. Sylux was asked to give his thoughts on a newSpyrogame being in development in 2020, and whether it might still be in development. Sylux offered up a direct statement, but one that raises an eyebrow. They say explicitly that, “No newSpyrotitle was in development in 2020,” but don’t comment on any other aspect of the rumor.
On one hand, Sylux outright squashing the rumor from Canadianguyehh cuts the heart out of the entire discussion. If the one thing that the YouTuber said was true isn’t actually true, then all the speculation surrounding the issue is worthless. Without more information, there’s no way to know if a newSpyrogame was in development before 2020 and was canceled, or if a newSpyrogame’s development has been picked up in 2021 or since. Sylux has broken the hearts of manySpyrofans.
However, it’s also true that what Sylux didn’t say may speak louder than what they did say. If all they were willing to say is that a newSpyrogame wasn’t in development in 2020, that does leave room for a newSpyrogame to have started development more recently. Otherwise, Sylux wouldn’t have been so precise with their language.
There is truth in the fact that it’s been four years since the release of theSpyro Reignited Trilogy. If a sequel was coming, it probably would have been announced by now. Toys for Bob has spent its time makingCrash Bandicoot 4and the upcomingCrash Team Rumblein the years since. If it was going to make aSpyrogame, the window to do so is shrinking.Spyrofans keep the fire going, though, in hope that Activision will see the community is still excited. Maybe that’ll be enough.
TheSpyro Reignited Trilogyis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
