Misha Green, the creator and director ofHBO’sLovecraft Countryis set to make her feature debut in partnership with MGM sooner rather than later. Green was the lead force behind the HBO show, alongside Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams, and was able to make quite the splash when the series finally did drop. Now she has reportedly been tapped to direct the sequel to the 2018Tomb Raiderfilm.

For those who didn’t see it,2018’sTomb Raideris not a continuation of the Angelina Jolie films. Instead, 2018’sTomb Raiderstars Alicia Vikander in an entirely new film series, based on the similar reboot of the games that began in 2013. The games aimed for a more grounded take on Lara Croft’s story, focusing on her history and how she became the character folks remember from the original games.

The movie followed much of the same track, focusing on Vikander’s Croft, and has a similar, though not identical, plot to the first reboot game. Lara Croft’s father disappears and, eventually, she decides to go out exploring as he did. When she winds up crash landing on an island, however, Lara has to survive the dangers of the territory as well as a roaming expedition of hostile explorers looking for a rare artifact that contains some mysterious power.

Tomb Raider, especially the reboot version, falls pretty neatly into theIndiana Jones-styleof storytelling: a determined protagonist survives increasingly overwhelming odds due to their wits and a little luck, eventually discovering some kind of magical artifact that turns out to be the real prize everyone’s after. LikeIndiana Jones, the firstTomb Raiderfilm was fairly successful, though not as successful as Jones himself, pulling in about $275 million globally.

Misha Green has more going on than justTomb Raider, however, as she is also producing Warner Bros.‘Cleopatra Jones,The Gilded Ones, andThe Mother, which she wrote herself. Given her talents and track record, it’s no wonder big studios are looking to get her on their projects. Hopefully, she continues her winning streak and brings that same creative energy to the nextTomb Raiderfilm.

Tomb Raideris now available on Netflix.
