One of last year’s biggest games,Metro:Exodus, turned out to bethe most successful entry in theMetrofranchiseto date while also finding favorable reviews from critics and fans alike. Naturally, many were looking forward to the game’s two additional DLC expansions that were slated to release in the year following the game’s release, and while fans have had the first piece of new content, it appears they now know when they’ll get the second.
Teased through a new image and some information on the game’s site, it appears the final DLC coming toExodus,titledSam’s Story,will release on February 11. To add to that surprisingly soon release date, the post also reveals a lot more about the story as well as some brand-new gameplay details about the DLC, with 4A Games teasing that it’ll be a “sandbox-survival expansion.”

What that means isn’t clear just yet. While the base game did offer less traditionally linear levels than previous games in the series, they were far from open world, often ushering the player in one direction while allowing them to explore nearby locations for supplies and ammunition. Seen as the previous DLC,Two Colonels,opted to go back towards a more linear style of gameplay, perhapsSam’s Storywill look to swing the pendulum in the opposite direction.
As for story details, the post does begin to flesh out where this next adventure in theMetrouniversewill go. The site states, “players will forge Sam’s path on his journey through Vladivostok on his mission to find his way home to the USA.” It appears the journey will be fraught with plenty of danger and new areas for players to explore, with the description claiming that Sam will navigate “ravaged harbours, ruined industrial buildings, and crumbling residential districts.”
It looks as though this could be the last fans see ofMetrofor a while also, with the DLC’s promotional image on Twitter coming with an ominous tagline. While the image itself is fairly innocuous, containing a gun sinking below water, it’s accompanied by the teaser “The Journey Ends.” Whether that’s an indicator that this is merely the final piece of DLC forExodusor perhaps that this is the last fans will see of 4A’s take onMetrofor a while is unknown, but it’s undeniably an interestingly ominous set up forExodus’last DLC all the same. Luckily, fans won’t have long to wait to find out, with the DLC dropping in only a few weeks’ time.
