Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Onealready looks like an absolute head-turner in the spy movie genre as even its top secret trailer delivered an exciting weekend for fans and Paramount Pictures. Nevertheless, the studio just fired back with the official preview for what already seems like one of 2023’s biggest blockbusters.
This past Saturday, the long-awaited teaser forMission Impossible 7was somehow leaked online, and though most videos were quickly taken down, anyone with internet access and enough motivation could have found the footage on Twitter by now. The news left Paramount with little option beyond releasing the video in pristine quality, yet according to early online reactions, Tom Cruise’s penultimate film as Ethan Hunt shows so much promise and excitement it’s anyone’s guess why the trailer wasn’t out earlier.

The preview plays on a familiar narrative for the world’s second most famous secret agent as Ethan Hunt is given a speech by formerIMF director from the firstMission: ImpossibleEugene Kittridge (Henry Czerny), about how a man like Hunt can find his place in a world where the line between good and evil gets blurrier with every new entry. Beyond that, Lorne Balfe’s score massive welcomes a new series of stunts and action scene teasers that show Cruise doing his best driving in the streets of Italy or jumping off a cliff in a motorcycle to prove theTop Gun: Maverickstar can pull off stunts like few other actors.
Cruise is joined by a lot of familiar faces, including two of his allies from Fallout, arms dealer Alanna Mitsopolis (Vanessa Kirby) and former agent Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), with the latter possibly getting an upgraded role as she appears to spend more time on the field with Hunt. Naturally, Ving Rhames and Simon Pegg return in their beloved roles as part of Cruise’s entourage, but newcomers Hayley Atwell and Esai Morales might also draw plenty of attention as the movie’s villain certainly look like a force to be reckoned with.
Mission Impossible 7took a really long time before wrapping up its convoluted filming process, especially due to the pandemic, however, many speculate it could featuresome of Cruise’s wildestMission: Impossiblestunts ever. By the sheer scope of it, it looks like the movie is ready to offer all the globetrotting action and scenery spy flicks tend to bring to the table, thus reaffirming the notion thatMission: Impossiblecould indeed be aging like fine wine as it gets better with every new sequel.
With sword-fighting, a speeding Fiat 500, desert landscapes, car chases, canal boat rides, and fancy parties,Mission Impossible 7looks to dethrone James Bondwhile also -possibly- drawing some inspiration from theMetal Gear Solidseries in some shots with the only logical conclusion being Christopher McQuarrie’s desire for this to be the biggest movie he’s made.
