Capcom is no stranger to wild collaborations between its owned properties, and Monster Hunter is getting one such joint event in just a couple of days. This time, a prominentStreet Fightercharacter will join the hunt inMonster Hunter Risefor the Nintendo Switch.
Upon its launch earlier this year,Monster Hunter Risewas praised for its thrilling and exciting hunting experience, while also adding many quality-of-life improvements that made it the most accessible game in the series till date.Monster Hunter Risewent on to ship over 4 million copiesin its opening weekend, just shy of the blockbuster hit that wasMonster Hunter World. That staggering number is just on a single platform, and is sure to increase when it launches on PC in early 2022.

Akuma will joinMonster Hunter Riseon August 27 as a set of Layered Armor, which basically functions like a costume for the hunter. to play as him, players just need to complete a new Event Quest. This Layered Armor not only changes the voice and appearance, it also alters kunai attacks into iconic moves, such as Gohadoken and the Zanku Hadoken. The post on the officialMonster Hunterwebsite also confirms that Akuma will get his own special animation on the quest completion screen.
If players equip a sword and shield, their attacks will morph into punches and kicks as shown in the trailer. A Perfect Rush dishes out a deadly combo, and Akuma’s special moves can be unleashed by using various Silkband attacks in the game. The post also teases a special surprise, and asks the player to pose with their weapon drawn in order to see it.Akuma has already been featured in other games likeTekken 7, so it comes as no surprise that he gets the highlight in the latest Capcom collaboration event forMonster Hunter Rise.
There already have been two such events inMonster Hunter Riseunder the name of “Capcom Collab." The first one was based onMonster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, while the second featuredOkamifrom the classic PS2 titleof the same name. Given the popularity of Akuma, it may end up being the most exciting and well-executed collaboration event for the game’s entire lifespan.
