Thinking back to the 90s-era of gaming with the likes of the N64, many older fans will know of some of the defining titles that have become classics in their own rights. FromGoldeneye, toSuper Mario 64, toLegend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, for many these were the golden years of a perhaps more simple time in gaming. Some of thebest games of the 90s came from the Nintendo 64, and for good reason. The likes ofOcarina of Timetook the series into new directions with new technology, and someone has been looking to take it even further.
CryZENx, who’s real name is Joseph, has been working on a modern take onOcarina of Time, and recently they were able to upload some additional play footage from their iteration of the game. Lasting 11 and a half minutes, CryZENx shows what the classic N64 title would look like in Unreal Engine 4, with the video showing a boost in the graphics to make it look more up to date. It also shows that there are interactive elements in this version, including talking to NPCs and riding Link’s horse, Epona.

The developer has been working on this for some time now, with more being shown off a while ago, showing the progress that had been made. On their YouTube channel, it seems as though this latest footage is the first bit of content they’ve been able to show off for nearly a year and a half, with the last video being uploaded to the channel around 18 months ago, with Kakariko Village being portrayed back then. This time, the play footage uploaded takes place on theLon Lon Ranch farm where players can run the time trail.
In general, it certainly looks like a more up-to-date version of the open-world belovedLegend of Zeldainstallment, though still retains some of that cartoon-y look that the original had.Unreal Engine 4is the previous iteration of the very popular software, which is used by all manner of studios to create a slew of AAA and independent games.
Alongside that, a source says that CryZENx will be looking to work onOcarina of Timeusing Unreal Engine 5next. While the UE4 version has been in the pipeline for some time now, there doesn’t seem to be an indication of when it will be made public. A report from DSO Gaming says the developer will hopefully be able to release it sometime in the future.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timeis available on Nintendo 64 and 3DS, as well as the Nintendo Switch.
