MultiVersusplayers are currently looking forward to the start of theSuper Smash Bros.-like fighting game’s first season of content. Already confirmed for Season 1 includes the release of Morty from the popularRick & MortyCartoon, with Rick to follow later in the season. It seemsMultiVersusdeveloper Player First Games is anxious for the start of Season 1, too. The developer recently kicked off aMultiVersuscommunity challenge to unlock a newRick & Mortystage – which players completed in just three hours.
On Friday, the officialMultiVersusTwitter account issued a challenge to the fighting game’s growing community. “Show us what you got,” was the thematic challenge. The more specific task was for players across the world to collectively accrue 10 million ring outs. After completing the challenge, Player First Games would unlock the very first post-launch stage release, Cromulons from theRick & Mortycartoon.Rick & Mortyfans will recognize it fromSeason 2’s Get Schwifty episodewhen Rick and Morty have to perform a musical number to save Earth from the giant floating heads.

Given thatMultiVersusplayers have no real idea how many active players there are across the world, it wasn’t immediately clear how quickly the challenge could be completed. It could have been something Player First Games wanted to take a week, to help lead intoMultiVersusSeason 1. Or it could be something relatively quick, a challenge capitalizing onMultiVersusactivity over the weekend.
It didn’t take a week, however. It didn’t even take the weekend. Instead,MultiVersusplayersmanaged to complete the challenge in around three hours. It was done before mostMultiVersusplayers even knew that there was a community challenge ongoing. Some players even asked on social media if the new Cromulons stage was playable by accident.
Clearly, Player First Games knew exactly what it was doing. It has access to all ofMultiVersus' data, after all. It would be able to see how many ring outs players were completing each hour, so setting a 10 million ring-out threshold was always intended to lead to Cromulons' quick release. In effect, this wasPlayer First Games' way of giving a gift toMultiVersusplayers for the weekend.
It’s somewhat surprising that Player First Games didn’t save the newRick & Mortystage for release alongside Season 1’s start on August 9. On the other hand, it’s also exciting to know Player First Games is comfortable releasing new content on a whim.MultiVersusplayers can now act out one ofRick and Morty’s adventuresbefore the characters show up in-game themselves.
MultiVersusis available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
