The Super Mario Bros. Moviehas had audiences waiting on each new announcement with bated breath. Now, Illumination has released a newMario Movietrailer that gives Princess Peach, Luigi, Donkey Kong, and Yoshi a chance to enjoy the spotlight.

Fans of the video game property have been waiting to see what Universal and Nintendo come up with in their first animated feature starring the world’s most well-known plumber, Mario Mario. Now, Universal and Nintendo have released a newSuper Mario Movietrailer that gives fans better looks at the rest of the cast, particularly fan favorites like Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen) and Princess Peach (Anya Taylor-Joy).

Featuring Chris Pratt as the voice of Mario,the newMario Movietraileropens with the world’s favorite plumber walking down a long corridor and out into an arena thronged with Mushroom Kingdom citizens chanting his name. “All right,” he says before getting ready to face down with his opponent, Donkey Kong, who stands across from him on a steel girder, reminding fans of the original game from 1981. As he leaps at Kong, the ape grabs him and beats him senseless while Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) and Princess Peach grimace in response.

It cuts to Bowser (Jack Black) confronting Luigi (Charlie Day) and saying that Luigi might not know who he is, but he intends to rule the world except for one problem: Mario. Luigi tries to stammer that just because they’re both identically dressed and mustachioed plumbers, it doesn’t mean they all know each other. Bowser plucks a mustache hair as torture. Princess Peach tells her advisersthat Bowser is comingas a shot of Bowser’s castle island moves across the land. She and Toad suit up for battle. Another shot shows Mario prepping for an obstacle course that looks like an original Mario Brothers level.

The journey begins with a shot of Mario, Peach, and Toad crossing a wooden bridge. Mario comically bumbles around after getting a cheep cheep stuck to his face before the trailer shows clips of Mario soaring in his tanooki suit and Peach getting fireball powers from a fire flower. Peach explains that there’s a huge universe out there. “They’re all counting on us,” Peach says, “No pressure.”

The Mario Movie trailer ends with a shot of Mario and company karting across a rainbow bridge as a jumping sound is heard, and Mario shouts, “Wahoo!” The scene is a nod tothe equally belovedMario Kartgames.

The Super Mario Bros. Moviereleases in theaters on April 7th, 2023.
