As miserable as it has been over the past year or so in terms of getting hold of anNvidiaor AMD product, especially a new release, there does seem to be some hope on the horizon. Withgraphics cards beginning to come down in price, particularly in parts of Europe, such as Germany, there is the possibility that this trend will continue and that gamers and PC enthusiasts will be able to purchase at MSRP once more. Luckily, it seems as though prices are continuing to drop, getting closer to retail value.
According to a recent report from Tom’s Hardware, which references the German website 3DCenter that has been tracking GPU prices, the cost of anNvidiaor AMD product is coming down some more. Cross-referencing the retail value from nine different stores in Austria and Germany, the data suggests that some graphics cards are now being priced at less than 50% over the MSRP value, showing that it’s been on the downswing since January of this year. This also could suggest that prices will begin to drop in other parts of the world as well.

According to the graph, team green’s hardware is still slightly more expensive than team red’s, but that’s perhaps to be expected, especially given theNvidia RTX 3090, which is considered one of the most powerful cards in the world. At the moment, the 3090 is 34% above the recommended selling price and will set PC users back around $1,500. On the opposite end is AMD’s RX 6900 XT, which is currently at 24% above the retail value, and has an average price of $999. In general, things are starting to look up, but potential buyers may not wish celebrate too early.
WithGPU prices skyrocketing in the middle of 2021, they did fall quite dramatically in the summer before rising again as Fall approached. Now, this latest trend does suggest that it could keep going down, maybe until it reaches the MSRP singularity, but the industry has seen it rise again in the past.
The long and the short of it is, it would be understandable for people to rush out and buy a card right now while the price is currently at the lowest it’s been for over a year. But with thetech shortages expected to go on until 2023, it will still prove difficult to get hold of anNvidiaor AMD graphics card anyway, but hopefully the prices will continue to keep coming down for the foreseeable future.
