Obsidian Entertainment has just officially published the PC system requirements for its upcoming title,Pentiment. The unique-looking narrative-focused adventure game promises choice-driven storytelling set in 16th-century Bavaria, all shown using artwork inspired by classic medieval manuscripts and some of the earliest, most highly regarded printed books of the real world.WhileObsidian Entertainmentmay have primarily worked on large-scale 3D role-playing games such asFallout: New VegasandPillars of Eternityup until relatively recently,Pentimentrepresents a bit of a developmental pivot for the studio. A more focused and contained experience,Pentimenthas two major draws: its narrative and visual styles. The good news for low-spec PC gamers, then, is that it won’t be hard to run at all.RELATED:Fallout: New Vegas Was Originally an Expansion for Fallout 3Previews make it clear thatPentimentis a unique experience, and Obsidian has now confirmed that virtually anybody will be able to run the game on PC. The official hardware requirements list 2012’s Nvidia GeForce GTX 650 Ti as a minimum GPU spec, which should at least be paired with the humble Intel Core i3-3225 processor. More interesting is perhaps the fact thatPentimentrequires 12 GB of available storage space, which is almost certainly due to the game’s striking visual assets.
WhileObsidian expressed interest in developing anotherFalloutgame, that doesn’t seem to be the studio’s primary concern at this time. Instead,Pentimentappears to be Obsidian’s secondary project with which the team hopes to explore new gameplay systems where narrative comes first. In the interim, its AAA-level productions are trucking along, from all accounts, even though there hasn’t been much in the way of information shared on that front.
Namely, oldAvowedscreenshots have been making roundsas of late, but Obsidian Entertainment hasn’t commented on those.Avowedis, for all intents and purposes, a total unknown still, and though uncorroborated leaks come up every so often, the studio is staying almost totally silent about it. The first-person ARPG is likely to receive a more substantial marketing push when Obsidian is ready to show more about it, of course, but that doesn’t seem to be the case just yet.
Regardless, Obsidian Entertainment fans are sure to have a field day with thefascinating setting ofPentiment. Medieval RPGs may be fairly commonplace nowadays, but this is the first time a studio has tackled this particular visual style. The promise of a comprehensive choice-driven storytelling system where the world changes according to the player’s decisions is, in this context, a very interesting proposition for the fans of the studio’s previous output.
Pentimentlaunches on Jul 02, 2025, for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series.
