Summary

Once Humanis a free-to-playhorror survival gamethat seamlessly blends various gameplay styles, including competitive player-versus-player (PvP) and story-focused mission progression. The game is structured into a season composed of six phases, each phase unveiling new gameplay features and choices.

One of the core features ofOnce Human, is the ability for players to capture deviants as pets. These are placed into containment units, and offer bonuses such as crafting boosts, free resources, or, in some cases, can even assist the player in combat. There are some good deviants that even new players of thissurvival gamecan catch early on.

Extradimensional Cat Is A Good Early Game Deviant In Once Human

7Extradimensional Cat

Helps Players Sleep

TheExtradimensional Catis a somewhat useful deviant that the player can capture very early on inOnce Human. Once it has been captured and put into a containment unit, it will aid the player in getting a good sleep, within thebase they have built.

When the player sleeps in a bed, the Extradimensional Cat will climb into bed and snuggle up next to them, and the player will receive a sleeping buff that will help them to regenerate their health faster, and also make removing the impact of pollution on the player’s sanity faster. By the later stages of the game, the player will likely want to free up the containment unit for a more useful deviant.

Chefosuarus Rex Is A Good Early Game Deviant In Once Human

6Chefosuarus Rex

Helps With Cooking

The Chefosuarus Rex is quite useful in the early stages ofOnce Human. But as with the Extradimensional Cat already covered, it will likely be replaced by a better deviant in the later stages of the game.

Chefosuarus Rex is a cartoon-looking dinosaur that will operate within the player’s base and territory, providing buffs that reduce the material cost and speed ofcooking foodand crafting drinks. It is very easy to get as part of the There’s A Dragon Here that is given to the player by Lowe at Meyer’s Market.

Butterfly’s Emissary Is A Good Early Game Deviant In Once Human

5Butterfly’s Emissary

Basic Combat Deviant

TheButterfly’s Emissarydeviant is given to all players as part of the new player experience. It is a basic combat deviant, which simply flies up to an enemy and performs a melee attack. However, it will be quite some time before new players gain access to a better combat deviant.

This deviant does decent damage, and will likely get quite a few attacks in before it runs out of power and is recalled to the player’s backpack cradle. A short way into the game, the player will receive a much better combat deviant if they are lucky, and this is when the Butterfly’s Emissary should be replaced.

Logging Beaver Is A Good Early Game Deviant In Once Human

4Logging Beaver

Collects Wood

TheLogging Beaveris a cute little critter, a deviant that will actively work within the player’s territory and collect wood. Furthermore, the Logging Beaver can man the advanced logging structure that can be unlocked as a mnemonic, to produce even more wood

Unfortunately, neither the basic Logging Beaver nor the logging structure manned by it produces very much wood. In the early game, it can produce useful volumes, but by the time the player has access to aloy axes, they can collect the same amount of wood in seconds as the beaver will gather in an hour. At this stage, there are better deviants to use in the securement container the beaver is within.

Digby Boy Is A Good Early Game Deviant In Once Human

3Digby Boy

Collects Ore

TheDigby Boydeviant works in exactly the same way as theLogging Beaver. Once it has been placed into a containment unit, it will start to gather random ores from within the player’s territory. It is also used to man the automated mining platform.

However,The Digby Boysuffers from the same drawbacks as the Logging Beaver. It is only useful in the early stages of the game. Once the player progresses to better tools, they can gather far more ores than the Digby Boy will provide, even when it is assigned to the automated mining platform.

Zeno-Purifier Is A Good Early Game Deviant In Once Human

2Zeno-Purifier

Decent Combat Deviant

TheZeno-Purifieris a significant upgrade over the Butterfly’s Emissary as a combat deviant. This is a samurai warrior that, once summoned, will teleport to enemies and perform melee attacks. It does more damage than the Butterfly’s Emissary, and should be used to replace it as soon as the player gains access to this deviant.

Unlocking it means completing the relevant season rewards, which tend to happen automatically without the player having to put any special effort into them. This is arguably the best combat deviant a player will get before they gain access to the Dog’s Skull.

Electric Eel Is A Good Early Game Deviant In Once Human

1Electric Eel

Boost Base Power Output

TheElectric Eeldeviant is extremely useful. Even though it can be captured (well caught) by even beginner players inOnce Human, it is useful all the way through the game. So much so, that some players may want to farm multiple copies of it.

When fishing, the player has a chance to catch this deviant instead of a fish. It can be put into a containment unit in the player’s base, and then will boost the power output of a single generator. This is why some people may farm multiple, so that they can boost multiple generators.
