Blizzard took to the stage at Blizzcon 2019 and managed to go all in this year, revealing everything fromDiablo 4toOverwatch 2. There were some minor disappointments, such as the lack of aDiablo 2 Remasteredannouncement, but overall, this Blizzcon may have made up for a lot of loss ground over the recent year. Of course, with everything the showcase, it’s easy for info to get lost.
One of the bigger reveals that caught many eyes, however, was theofficial announcement ofOverwatch 2and its PvE mode. Rumors concerning the game were huge going into the event, with several aspects confirmed and others de-confirmed. For example, there was a rumor thatOverwatch 2would basically ignore the hard work of players in the first game to accumulate skins and cosmetics, but that’s been proven untrue. Essentially, everything will carry over from the first game to the second game, including heros and maps, in a shared world-like approach.

While there are certainly questions about that specific approach, it seems the PvE mode will only be in the second game. After all,Blizzardneeds to offer some incentive for players to check it out. And one major way that was done was by showcasing some of the playable heroes of the PvE mode. It’s worth mentioning that, beyond its announcement, a few map teases, and a little gameplay of the mode, little more than that was revealed.
It stands to reason that the majority, if not all, of the playable heroes inOverwatch 2can be played in the PvE mode. This is especially true when considering there will be a number of new heroes joining the roster, such as the newly revealed yet super secretiveOverwatch 2hero Sojourn, but that is unconfirmed at this time and simple speculation. It’s within a realm of possibility that PvE mode will limit some characters to NPCs, or they may not be present whatsoever. Whatever the case, here’s every character confirmed to be involved to some capacity so far:

While this is a hardy list, there are a few missing characters of course. Echo was shown to a small degree, but not really enough to show if or how she would be involved inOverwatch 2’s PvE mode. Characters like Hanzo, Soldier 76, Ash, and McCree were also notably absent, as were a majority of others, but there’s a high probability that Blizzard didn’t want to show its full hand. On the flip side of that, it’s also possible gameplay of some characters isn’t ready for the public yet, as lead designer Jeff Kaplan has “no idea” whenOverwatch 2will release.
Regardless, this list will satisfy many players, especially with the chance that more reveals are on the horizon. While there’s still no solid release window, it seems safe to say that Blizzard is going all in withOverwatch 2.
