Overwatch 2has grown to be quite popular since its release despite controversies surrounding it, with the title still maintaining a vocal and active community in the wake of its second season. With the game aiming to set itself apart from the originalOverwatch, a slew of brand-new playable heroes are already involved in the title - which leaves plenty of room for balance updates to characters like Sojourn.

New heroes inOverwatch 2, as well as some significant changes made to pre-existing heroes, have undoubtedly given the release its own identity. However, they also open up a high likelihood of imbalance, with heroes becoming overpowered or underwhelming as more changes are applied. This necessitates constant balancing updates, and Sojourn has received a nerf that many already consider to be a long time coming.

Overwatch 2’s Season 2 Launch

Season two ofOverwatch 2went live on December 6, bringing with it a plethora of changes and planned events. One of the largest changes with season two is the introduction of a brand-new tank hero named Ramattra, who offers a unique combat role while forwarding theOmnic lore of theOverwatchfranchise.

Season two also includes its own battle pass, which offers aMythic skin for another tank hero: Junker Queen. Add on changes to the map pool and a brand-new payload map named Shambali Monastery, it is clear that season two has lots to offer. One of the more important factors ofOverwatch 2’sseason two launch is that a fresh spate of nerfs and balance changes have finally been made to the title’s hero roster. While this makes some lesser-used heroes more viable, it additionally aims to quell the combat prowess of others like Sojourn.

Sojourn is the first hero to get her own standalone novel with Overwatch 2: Sojourn.

Overwatch 2: Sojourn Nerf and Changes

Sojourn was one of the firstnew heroes to be added toOverwatch 2. Possessing a high rate of fire and long-distance primary weapon, as well as abilities influencing her mobility and crowd control, it quickly became apparent that Sojourn was able to deal huge amounts of damage with few downsides. This became even more clear through Sojourn’s dominance in competitiveOverwatch 2leaderboards, with most of the world’s high-ranking players taking on the new hero.

While Sojourn managed to escape theprevious balance changes toOverwatch 2, season two has finally seen the hero receive some needed changes to her kit. The energy build-up of Sojourn’s main weapon now drains after five seconds instead of eight, and the secondary fire projectile has a 1.5 critical damage multiplier instead of 2.

On top of this,Sojourn’s secondary firereceived a major nerf, now having a damage fall-off range of 40 meters instead of 70. Still, Sojourn did also receive some positive changes. For example, her primary fire damage per-projectile has been increased from nine to 10, and her overclock energy charge rate has increased by 20 percent. While Sojourn players will take some small solace in these positive changes, it remains that the huge nerfs to her range and energy charging have significantly impacted the areas that were considered unbalanced prior to these changes. Time will tell whether her dominant position in the game’s meta falters as a result.

Overwatch 2is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
