A new survey sent out to fans gives more details about the long-awaitedPikmin 4, which includes its new mission type. Earlier this year, during the February 2023 Nintendo Direct, fans finally got a newtrailer and release date forPikmin 4. It was consistently a game in the back of people’s minds, as it was first announced during the September 2022 Direct, but this trailer was the first time fans got a solid look at the game, including its features and changes from the last game. It confirmed the return of some fan-favorite Pikmin as well as plenty of new creatures, including a dog that the Hocotate characters can control. Of the new things introduced in the trailer, there were two things that caught people’s eyes.
There was there-introduction ofPikmin 2’s caves, where they introduced a more diverse environment to explore with random items, enemies, and traps, with the idea of taking enemies into a sprawling, hostile environment being an appealing challenge. The other thing that was teased in the latest trailer was the idea of embarking on missions at night, with enemies becoming even more hostile once the sun sets. This new survey from Nintendo gives a little more detail about these missions and how they’ll work.

This survey was provided to some gamers, with one being given to Eurogamer as well. In it, they state their impressions of what they saw and how Nintendo could promote the game better. One of the more eye-catching descriptors in the survey wasPikmin 4’s Night-time levels, featuring “new and intense” gameplay. In the previous threePikmingames, the player was always forced to leave the planet they were on at the end of the day, where nightfall brought predators that came to eat any Pikmin left behind. As such,Pikmin 4’s missions at night seem to be scaling things up for something more dangerous, as indicated by the trailer showing a dangerous red-eyed Bulborb.
Pikmin 4’s cave system was also briefly touched upon in this survey, where it states that players will be solving puzzles in these caves, along with managing their resources to escape. This lines up with howPikmin 2featured them, as players had a set number of Pikmin at their side and needed to come out the other end with what they came in with. These new and returning mechanics should make for an interesting challenge.
The other features in the survey were a little more standard, such as detailingthe brand-new Ice Pikmin, new enemies, and characters like the aforementioned dog companion. Fans will get to see how this reinventedPikmingame will play when it releases this July.
Pikmin 4launches July 21, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
