The PlayStation App allows players to browse the PlayStation Store, read news from PlayStation, message and chat with friends, and access storage from a PlayStation 5 console in rest mode. Additionally, users may download games and DLC to their PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 console while using the app. This past September, PlayStation App would receive one of its biggest updates with the introduction of thePlayStation Stars loyalty program. Sony released a new PlayStation App update that allows users to customize the app’s color scheme with a variety of new hues in the “Appearance” settings menu. The newly-added hues include Cosmic Red, Galactic Purple, Midnight Black, Nova Pink, and Starlight Blue. These colors are often used in official Sony products such asPlayStation 5 DualSense controllersand console faceplates. Push Square recently received the new PlayStation App update on iOS and revealed what some of these colors look like in the app.

The PlayStation App update fuels speculation about new themes potentially coming to PS5 through firmware updates. If Sony were to introduce themes such as Cosmic Red or Midnight Black to PlayStation 5, players would be able to match their console and DualSense controllers with the user interface’s color scheme. However, these colors are currently limited to the PlayStation App since Sony has yet to confirm if new themes are actually coming to the console.

PlayStation fans have clamored for PlayStation 5 themesin the past two and a half years, and the new PlayStation App update may give fans a hopeful outlook for what may come in future firmware. This new update allows for more personalization of the PlayStation App since users may finally choose another option outside the standard light and dark modes.

Major complaints about the PlayStation Apphave been raised in the past, and Sony worked hard to remedy issues that users faced. The company could continue listening to user feedback by adding more personalization features to the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation App. The PlayStation 5 currently lacks customization features and theme support once found on the PlayStation 4, but it remains to be seen if Sony will address this.
