The zombie apocalypse title combines the struggle for survival with a nuanced relationship drama between the two protagonists that proved to be incredibly memorable. Now, a cameo in a recent PlayStation Productions animation may be hinting at a remake ofThe Last of Uscoming down the pipeline.ThefirstLast of Usgamecame out back in 2013 and chronicled the developing bond between two survivors traveling across post-apocalyptic America, the hard-bitten cynic Joel and the young and idealistic Ellie. The game is legendary for how well it manages to get gamers in the same headspace as Joel and develop the same attachment to Ellie. Although the clip is only about 20 seconds long, it features icons like Nathan Drake, Kratos and Atreus, and Sackboy alongside newcomers like Jin Sakai and Aloy. Joel and Ellie are both clearly visible as well, traced in blue holographic light the same as their fellows. However, it is noticeable that they appear in theirThe Last of Us 1incarnations just as Naughty Dog co-presidentNeil Druckmann seemingly teased a remake.
Druckmann has previously hinted thatNaughty Dog is currently working on three projects, although he did not go into detail on what they might be. However, between the approach of the HBOThe Last of Usadaptation–which was delayed to late 2022–and the steady hints from Druckmann, it’s possible that one of those titles is a remake ofThe Last of Us. Furthermore, several of the characters featured in the PlayStation Productions animation have either just received a new game or are expecting a new title soon. While this isn’t a firm binary, it is noticeable.
As of writing, it appears that many fans are interested in the possibility of aremake ofThe Last of Us. Several Twitter users replied expressing anticipation for a remake. However, one user complained that it was too soon for a remake and stated that they wanted Naughty Dog to work on a new IP.
