There are around 900 different pocket monsters currently implemented in various mainlinePokemongames, includingBrilliant Diamond andShining Pearl. All Pokemon have their fans, but not all Pokemon are equally available–Mythical Pokemon are notorious for only being available to catch during real-life event periods. Now,Pokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlplayers have the opportunity to catch the Mythical Pokemon Shaymin, but they’re running out of time.
Shaymin is a Grass-type Mythical Pokemonknown as the Gratitude Pokemon. It’s well known for having two forms: Land Forme, which looks like a green hedgehog with two pink flowers on its head, and Sky Forme, which looks more like a very tall cat or very small deer. In Sky Forme, Shaymin becomes a Grass/Flying-type.

Currently, gamers canget Shaymin inPokemon Brilliant DiamondandShining Pearlby accessing the Mystery Gift function between June 17, 2025, and Jul 30, 2025. Players who connect to the internet, choose Mystery Gift from the menu, and select the Oak’s Letter Gift can trigger the event. Once they have the Oak’s Letter Gift, the event can be triggered at any time as long as the item stays in the player’s inventory–it will be listed as a Key Item. When ready, players must go to Route 224 and meet with Professor Oak.
to unlock Route 224, players must first haveunlocked the game’s National Pokedexand acquired the HM Strength. Once those qualifications are met, the Route can be accessed from the back entrance of Victory Road, down the waterfall. A path that was once blocked will now be open, and gamers will be able to team up with Marley for a series of double battles. After exiting the cave, players will be able to make their way onto Route 224 and speak with Professor Oak. He will give them the opportunity to type in the name of someone they’d like to send gratitude to, and Shaymin will appear.
Gamers can then follow the flowery path that appears around Shaymin and battle it to capture it. However,catching Shaymin isn’t the endof the event–putting Shaymin in the party and showing it to a specific NPC will help players unlock its Forme Change. If players speak with the blonde woman in purple just above the Floarama Town Pokemon Center with Shaymin in their party, they will receive the Gracidea flower. This Key Item allows Land Forme Shaymin to become Sky Forme Shaymin.
