Summary
A creative and artistically talentedPokemonfan is quickly gaining attention after they posted an impressive piece of concept art, positing what it would look like if Feraligatr were to receive a Gigantamax form. The fan-made design, which features a far more ferocious version of the fan-favorite monster than players are used to, is leaving manyPokemonfans wishing for the generational mechanic to be brought back.
Introduced as part ofPokemon’s Generation VIII, Gigantamaxing is a variant of Dynamaxing, a process which vastly increases a Pokemon’s physical size, strength, and HP. Gigantamaxing includes all of the former, as well as significantly altering the appearance of the Pokemon while giving it access to its ultra-powerful G-Max move. With only a handful of Pokemon able to acheive such a form - totaling just 32 afterPokemon Sword and Shield’s Isle of Armor DLC- fans have taken it upon themselves to imagine other creatures in the gargantuan style.
The undoubtedly impressivePokemonfan artwork comes from a Reddit user called Millagro_art, who posted their fearsome rendition of a Gigantamaxed Feraligatr to one of the site’s mainPokemonpages. A decidedly less cartoony version of the Pokemon, the Gigantamax Feraligatr takes a quadrapedal over bipedal stance, boasting far beefier limbs and claws than its standard counterpart. Along with scalier skin throughout, its red spines have been fashioned to look like spiky mountain ridges. The river-pouring mouth and yellow eyes create quite the intimidating face in a design commentors are saying is better thanthe best officialPokemonGigantamax designs.
Feraligatr Fans Create Unique Designs for the Pokemon
In addition to receiving a Gigantamax design, the Water-type Pokemon has been given another generation-locked evolution by a fan. Last year a prolificPokemonfan artist created aMega Evolution design for Feraligatr, along with the final forms of fellow Gen 2 starters Meganium and Typhlosion. This rendition stuck a bit closer to Feraligatr’s original design, while still substantially bulking up the Pokemon’s frame along with a few other design tweaks. While its unclear if the Mega Evolution or Gigantamax version would fare better in battle, both designs are widely considered by fans to be well-made.
Considering most evolutionary gimmicks last only a singlePokemongeneration, it’s highly unlikely Feraligatr will ever receive an official Gigantamax form. However, currentPokemonfans can now catch (regular) one of their very own if they wish, as Totodile, Crocnaw, andFeraligatr are available inPokemon Scarlet and Violetthanks to the titles' Indigo Disk DLC.
