Summary

One talentedPokemonfan has recently shared some rather unusual art envisioning a disturbing fusion of Ditto and Dodrio. Their eerie imagery emerged online not long after amuch cuter Minior model impressed thePokemonfandom.

As one of the most popular media brands of all time, thePokemonfranchise is a frequent inspiration for artists. Combining multiple pocket monsters into new designs is a popular approach among content creators, many of whom habitually limit such hybrids to two creatures. Not everyone adheres to that formula, as previously illustrated by aPokemon fan who decided to fuse every Generation 1 Pokemon into one creature, with some rather bizarre results.

And while the Dodrio-Ditto fusion that was recently shared by Reddit user rc1246 might have only incorporated twoPokemon, the result of that artistic effort is no less unusual. That’s largely because the artist approached this premise by basically envisioning Ditto’s incomplete transformation into Dodrio, thus painting a drippy three-headed bird with unsettlingly grimacing faces. They ultimately authored two such unnerving fusions, one in a shade of Ditto’s lavender pink, and the other tinted Dodrio brown.

Adding to the disturbing feeling of the images is their unnatural lighting, as both renditions of the creature feature an otherworldly glow around the edges of their contours, with those highlights spilling over in some places while being razor-thin in others. Meanwhile, the beast’s body and three smiling faces are veiled in shadow, as if they were only lit from the back. And though the end result is highly unique, it’s dubious whether many fans wouldwish that this Pokemon fusion was real.

The newly emerged imagery still underlines howthe original Generation 1 Pokemoncontinue to inspire new fan art almost three decades since their debut. The series started all the way back in 1996 with the Japan-only releases ofPokemonRed and Green, which were soon followed byPokemon Blue.PokemonGreennever made its way out of its home country, but the other two versions launched in the West come 1998.

The Generation 1 creatures are still considered synonymous with the franchise itself and continue to be prominently featured in Game Freak’s modern RPGs. For example, the latest mainline entries in the series—Pokemon Scarlet and Violet—include over one-third of the original Pokemon generation, as well as 15 additional variants of these creatures such as Alolan Raichu, Galarian Slowpoke, and Paldean Tauros. That number is expected to increase with the release of The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero expansion, as the second part of the incoming DLC will include a Pokemon Safari-like location which will bring back many additional pocket monsters.
