Summary

Pokemon Scarlet and Violetmay not be perfect games, but they added a lot of interesting new ideas to the series that future games may eventually pick up and reshape, or they could even become new trends - like regional forms after their success in Gen 7. Some of these new concepts are particularly appealing, such as the addition of the so-calledregional fakes inPokemon Scarlet and Violet, which are entirely new species of pocket monsters, but they share a lot of DNA and even parts of their names with the critters they’re inspired by. Another appealing approach is that of Paldean Tauros, which got not one, but three different regional forms in Gen 9 - and that’s something Gen 10 should do too for Miltank.

One could argue that three regional forms for a single Pokemon in one game are too many and thatPokemon Scarlet and Violethave gone overboard with Paldean Tauros, but it remains an intriguing case. Gen 1’s Meowth ended up getting regional forms in two consecutive games, for example, and that too was considered too much by many players, but Tauros getting three forms in one game somehow makes sense due to how they differ and how many biomes Paldea as a region has. As controversial as it may be, it could be fun to see this approach again, and it would make sense for the receiving Pokemon to be Miltank.

Why Miltank Getting New Regional Forms in Gen 10 Makes Perfect Sense

Pokemon Gen 10 Should Show That Tauros and Miltank Are Counterparts to One Another

Miltank and Tauros are often considered counterparts to one another, but this is not exactly officially confirmed by the series. Their similarities are that they are both bovine-like pocket monsters, they have the exact same base stat total (BST) regardless of stat distribution, and they are respectively female-only and male-only species. In terms ofPokemonbreeding, however, they cannot produce eggs.

Miltank played a prominent role in Gen 2 when it was first introduced, as it was Whitney’s signature Pokemon in her Gym battle, and it was infamously known for defeating players with Rollout. Given that Miltank was absent from Gen 9,PokemonGen 10 gamescould reintroduce this critter and give it multiple regional forms in order to square things with Tauros. This also has the potential of giving Miltank some love in terms of competitive viability because its Normal type can be a hindrance more than a boon, and it lacks both utility and damage potential with its kit.

Why Pokemon Gen 10 Needs Another Paldean Tauros in Miltank

Paldean Tauros' Success Shows Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Approach is Right on the Money

Another possibility would be forMiltank to get cross-gen evolution inPokemonGen 10games, but it wouldn’t exactly be the same treatment as Paldean Tauros. While the original Pokemon’s BST stayed the same, Paldean Tauros had a lot to gain from its new regional forms to the point that it even won a few tournaments. The base Combat Breed Paldean Tauros form is a pure Fighting-type Pokemon, but it also has Blaze Breed and Aqua Breed forms, with the former being Fire and Fighting and the latter being Water and Fighting. Both are great type combinations, and each gave Tauros new powerful tools to play with.

Paldean Tauros' successalso depends on the fact it has access to Intimidate, which is a really powerful Ability due to it lowering the Attack of every opposing Pokemon on the field, and that is something regular Kantonian Tauros also has. Potential regional forms of Miltank are also likely to share Johtonian Miltank’s Abilities, and they are not great - but they can be. Something like Sap Sipper is often considered sub-par, but having a new form of Miltank be weak to Grass and have Sap Sipper would make its match-ups better from the get-go, and it would also be immune to Spore, for example. Overall, there is a lot thatPokemongames like Unova remakes or Gen 10 can do to improve past critters, and Miltank is one of them.
