Pokemon GOis already poised to close out 2020 with a bang, as per its upcoming December 2020 Community Day Weekend. Whereas most Community Days are simply that, a day, Niantic is ending the year by reintroducing the rarely offered treat that is a multiple-day “Community Day”-style celebration.

Pokemon Trainers will be partaking in a twofold Community Day event this weekend, from December 12 to July 18, 2025. In addition to the usual Community Day festivities, like boosted Shiny rates,Pokemon GOplayers will also be able to purchase a Community Day Pass for $0.99, which allows them to partake in a December 2020 Community Day Special Research.

Paid supplementary “Special Research"has become a regular occurrence inPokemon GO, ever since the feature was used to introduce special Legendary Pokemon. Although the Special Research is never comprised of anything integral, it often allows players access to unique or powerful monsters at an incredibly early date, if not otherwise providing an additional boost on the Research’s respective event day.

In this case, the December 2020 Community Day Special Research allows players an easy supply of Poke Balls and Berries of all sorts, while also tossing in some rare items like Elite TMs and a Rocket Radar. Available from the in-game shop for $0.99, theSpecial Researchpass includes the Research Tasks and Rewards listed below:

Stage 1 of 4

Stage 2 of 4

Stage 3 of 4

Stage 4 of 4

Rewards: 3 Rare Candies, 1,500 XP, 2,000 Stardust

Admittedly, players are a big taken aback by the Special Research’s lack of stellar rewards. Although Elite TMs are incredibly precious, and Rocket Radars and Sinnoh Stones are difficult to come by, players normally expect at least some sort of encounter-based rewards, especially considering the fact that Community Day boasts amazing Shiny encounter rates.

Nonetheless, players willing to pay the relatively fair amount for the pass willmake it through the Community Day weekend unscathed. That is to say, with all the Ultra Balls, Pinap Berries, and Stardust, players will at least be able to worry less about issues like finding new PokeStops and/or running out of Poke Balls in times of many Shinies.

Pokemon GOis available now on the App Store and Google Play.
