Valentine’s Day is almost upon the world, withPokemon GOalready celebrating in its own special way: a PvP league based around the holiday. This league has been namedthePokemon GOLove Cup, and it has unique limitations like other special battle leagues.
The Love Cup itself is limited to Pokemon under 1,500 CP and will only permit Pokemon that primarily have a red or pink color scheme. The alternate colors of shiny Pokemon inPokemon GOare not considered, meaning a shiny Pokemon that isn’t red or pink will be allowed if its original is. This also means that a red or pink shiny will not be permitted if its original isn’t.

With such harsh limitations, it makes it harder to figure which Pokemon are the best to bring. Thankfully, mathematic calculations can be made to discern which can deal out the most damage before succumbing to their opponents' moves.
Despite what players are given, there are plenty of strong hitters among this limited pool of Pokemon with multiple types. While some may be hard to come across under 1,500 CP, others can gain a new spotlight that they’ve never had in other PvP leagues.
Some of the best Pokemon to bring along are:
Lickitung is a pure Normal-type Pokemon that players can reasonably keep strong while under 1,500 CP. While its moves won’t be super effective to any of its opponents, it has the defensive advantage of only being weak to Fighting-type moves. Due to the limitations of the Love Cup, the only Fighting-type Pokemon that players will have to really worry about is Medicham.
Alomomola is one of the fewWater-type Pokemonavailable to players in the Love Cup. It will be very helpful due to many of the Pokemon that are colored red being Fire-types. While not seeing much use outside of the Love Cup, Alomomola’s Water-type moves can help take down troublesome Fire-types.
Charizard is a usual sight in many different GO Battle League cups, but some players likely won’t have one under 1,500 CP. If they do, it will be the best possible Fire-type they will be able to use.
Medicham is a dual Fighting andPsychic-type Pokemonthat can deal plenty of powerful Fighting-type moves. With Lickitung being among the most popular winners in the Love Cup, Medicham may be a good backup to help take it down.
Electrode is another Pokemon that doesn’t have many other representatives from its type. With Alomomola being commonly used among the higher ranks of the Love Cup, some players wanting to protect their Fire-type Pokemon may want to take the Electric-type Electrode along.
Finally, Clefable is a tankypure Fairy-typethat can be used for many different battles. Its two weaknesses of Steel and Poison-type moves are less likely to be seen than usual, allowing for Clefable to last pretty long out on the field.
