Summary

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Indigo Disk just launched one week ago, and it’s already confirmed it will get an epilogue on January 11 of next year, as well as future events and side content for players to enjoy as the year goes by. Among the various planned releases are a new Delibird Mass Outbreak, three Mass Outbreaks after it with a focus on some rare Dragon-type Pokemon, such as the newly reintroduced Duraludon, and a 7-Star Tera Raid to take the place of the current Dialga and Palkia 5-Star event. The next 7-Star Tera Raid is going to be dedicated to Iron Bundle, one of the newGen 9 Paradox Pokemon, but what is odd about it is that it breaks two streaks at once.

So far,Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s 7-Star Tera Raid bosseshave all followed a certain pattern, and they all made sense to be featured - especially now that The Indigo Disk is out, and all starters are back and part of its Pokedex, which needs to be filled with 200 entries to unlock new critters. Some Tera Raid bosses were used because this way players could get Hisuian Pokemon even outside ofPokemon Legends: Arceus. However, Iron Bundle is an odd pick that only makes sense in the context of the holiday season - but even then, there could have been other candidates for the Raid.

Why Iron Bundle is a Strange Pick for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Next Tera Raid

Every 7-Star Tera Raid Pokemon in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

So far, there have been a total of 16 7-Star Tera Raid bosses inPokemon Scarlet and Violet. From the first, in order of appearance, to the last, they were the following pocket monsters:

The pattern is fairly straightforward in this case, as all of these pocket monsters are either starters from past generations, starters from spin-offs, just mascots of the series, or a returning Legendary in the case of Mewtwo. Instead, Iron Bundle is a Paradox Pokemon, which checks none of these boxes, and it’s normally available in the game with no particular restrictions. However,Iron Bundle is exclusive toPokemon Violet, so it not only breaks the streak of 16 starters, mascots, or Legendaries, but it also comes as a strange exception in exclusivity.

Every Version-Exclusive Tera Raid Event in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

Normally, events with version-exclusive Pokemon are handled in a way where each version can get the other version’s critters, and it’s somethingPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s past Tera Raids have already done with several other Paradox Pokemon. The main reason for Iron Bundle to be the featured critter in the new Raid is Delibird’s connection to the holiday season, and with Iron Bundle being based on Delibird, it makes sense. The problem is that Iron Bundle is only available in one game, andPokemon Violetplayers won’t get a chance to catch an exclusivePokemon ScarletParadoxcritter alongside it. So far, the version-exclusive events included:

All of these, apart fromPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s Walking Wake and Iron Leaves, were available as 5-Star Raids, whereas these two were made exclusive via 7-Star Raids. As such, it doesn’t make sense to break yet another streak and feature a Pokemon that is only natively available in one game without having a counterpart for players of the opposite version. On top of that, Iron Bundle and its counterpart, which based on the Pokedex number is Scream Tail inPokemon Scarlet, have never been in Tera Raids before. As such, featuring them as bosses simultaneously would have been a great choice, but this approach remains a strange one.
