Summary

Pokemon Scarlet and Violet’s The Indigo Disk DLC is set to become a rather polarizing release due to its breaking multiple traditions, unlike The Teal Mask, while also allegedly time-gating content throughout 2024. In fact, a renownedPokemoninsider by the name of Riddler Khu hinted that the expansion will feature a total of 8 new Pokemon, but that only three of them will be available from the get-go for those who purchase the DLC, with the remaining five becoming available at a later date. Among the ones that will be available at launch is likelyTerapagos, The Indigo Disk’s mascot, who may end up being one of the most OP Pokemon ever.

There are various reasons why Terapagos could be one of the strongest Pokemon in the series, and the fact that it’s getting such a prominent role in thePokemonanime, combined with its role as the ultimate incarnation of all possible types in the game, are right at the core. On top of that, Terapagos is the culmination of what’s possible with Terastallization in Paldea, to the point that the DLC is adding a19thPokemontypeto the game - although it remains unclear what that will entail, exactly.

How Terapagos Could Become a Broken Pokemon in The Indigo Disk

Why Terapagos Could Have a Broken Ability and OP Stats, Similar to Arceus

A recent Riddler Khu Twitter post asked fans which Pokemon they think will be stronger between the renowned god Pokemon Arceus and The Indigo Disk’s Terapagos, hinting at the latter being more powerful than the former, or at least its equal. This is purely a stat-based comparison, according to Khu, and with the various hints about Terapagos having not two but three forms, it’s possible that its ultimate representation will also be the strongest, but it remains to be seen if it’s stronger than Arceus itself. TheArceus vs. TerapagosPokemondebatecould take more routes still, though, and some have been explored by Khu themselves.

In another tweet, Khu stated that Terapagos' Ability is a defensive one. This is a relevant detail in the context that Khu and the game itself basically confirmed there will be Tera Forms inPokemon Scarlet and Violet’s The Indigo Disk, and the reason is that Terapagos could have perhaps one of the strongest Abilities ever - and it would make sense lore-wise. In fact, with the turtle-like critter being tied to every type in the series, there is a chance that Terapagos' defensive Ability will allow it to turn every move that hits it into a “not very effective” hit, or at least to not be hit by supereffective damage.

This would single-handedly be one of the most broken additions toPokemon Scarlet and Violet(and by extension the whole series), and Terapagos' attunement to all the types in the series would even justify it as a consequence of Terastallization. A Fire-type move could turn Terapagos' type into Water to resist it, for example, making it the only critter that never has to worry about supereffective damage. If so, Terapagos could even become a nightmare in competitive VGCPokemonbattles, and it could be even stronger than Arceus.

What Arceus' gimmick does is change its type and the type of its Judgment move based on its held Plate, which is admittedly very strong, but it wouldn’t be on the same level as Terapagos' alleged ability to never take supereffective damage, let alone just effective damage.

In such a scenario, and if Terapagos indeed has stats better than or comparable to Arceus', it could be the single most OP Pokemon in the entire series. Thebest Mythical Pokemonin the series would probably not be able to compete with this unprecedented level of power, and its main (and possibly only) drawback could be that it’s exclusively tied to Terastallization - outside of it, Terapagos could stay in its “baby” form and not be as effective, for example.
