Sony announced its consolidated financial results today, showing that the PS4 had sold over 1.577 billion copies of games all around the world, beating out the PS2’s previous record of 1.537 billion. In terms of digital sales, it was estimated that during the fiscal year of 2020, 601,000 games were sold on thePlayStation Storeevery day, which is amazing to think about.
There are a lot of factors that likely contributed to such impressive financial success in 2020, the most obvious being theCOVID-19pandemic. With a significant percentage of the world population quarantining at home for several months, video games became a desired way to pass the time.
