Veteran anime fans willremember the phenomenon that wasPsycho-Passback in 2012. It has been 10 years since the dystopian police anime burst onto the scene, and this special anniversary is being commemorated with a brand-new film and other exciting developments.

The film, titledPSYCHO-PASS PROVIDENCE, was announced as part of thePsycho-Pass10th Anniversary Project, and it will come alongside various other exciting events heralding the series' revival. The announcement came with new key visuals as well as a promotional trailer, which can be seen below.

Psycho-PassPROVIDENCEwas announced during thePsycho-Passanime’s 10th anniversary event.New key visuals accompanied the promotional trailerthat was released, and the news was boosted on the series' official Twitter account. Tomokazu Seki, the voice actor of main character Shinya Kougami, was selected to be the 10th anniversary project ambassador.

ThePsycho Pass10th Anniversary Project will feature various elements, such as the revival of the radio show, pop-up shops, product campaigns and an exciting online exhibition dubbedPSYCHO PASS - ONLINE EXHIBITIONwith a grand opening on December 19. The online exhibition will run for just over two months until February 28.

For those who don’t know about the series,Psycho-Passis set in the 22nd century, in a dystopian society wherea centralised system makes judgments and decisionson people’s lives through a special technology that reads a person’s mental state to determine their likelihood of committing heinous crimes. This scanning of people’s mental state derives an overall value called the Crime Coefficient, which is expressed through the colour-coded indicator known as a Psycho-Pass.

Officers of the law are expected to carry out the will of the Sibyl system by suppressing any and all criminal activity according to the measures determined by the system itself. Naïve new inspector, Akane Tsunemori, works at the Central Investigation Department (CID), which makes use of jaded ex-inspectors called Enforcers, who are determined by the system to be latent criminals deserving of lethal force. Akane, a believer in the fairness and equality of justice, has her world turned upside-down when she comes to realize that the system is not as all-knowing as it’d have one belief.

The series' original run was from October 2012 to March 2013, spanning 22 episodes. The second season ofPsycho-Passaired from October 2014 to December of the same year, with half the episode count as the previous. Inthe 5 year period betweenthe second and third season, the first film as well as thePsycho-Pass: Sinners of the Systemtrilogy were released in the years between 2015 and 2019, with the third and most recent season airing for only eight episodes between October and December 2019.

While the announcement was made, no official release date forPsycho Pass PROVIDENCEhas been provided as yet; however, what we do know at this point is thatthe director set to oversee this productionis studio Production I.G’s Naoyoshi Shiotani, who was at the helm of all previousPsycho Passworks.
