Leading gaming peripheral brandRazeris getting ready to beta test its Project Hazel RGB face mask, now officially dubbed theRazerZephyr. This mask is the latest version of the brand’s wearable air purifier and Razer is now accepting community sign-ups from fans interested in testing the Zephyr out before its official release.

Reportedly, the Zephyr has been designed to be safe, social, and sustainable, all of which are very important in the climate of 2021. The Zephyr is a face mask rather than one of Razer’s more well-known products, like a gaming headset, but it still incorporates the company’s high-tech, high-style aesthetic for an accessory that gamers may find both functional and cool.

The Razer Zephyr is a surgical N95 respirator with a very high fluid resistance to protect the wearer against splashes and a transparent design that allows onlookers to pick up on social cues. Voiceamp technology will ensure that speech isn’t muffled using a combination of a built-in mic and amplifier. Razer has taken a leaffrom its smart glassesand stuffed even more tech into the face mask, meaning the device also features 99% BFE, a secure silicon face seal, and anti-fog coating, all of which presumably require testing. Razer put together a short, 20-second-long video on its official Twitter to show off what the Zephyr has to offer.

A face mask may seem like an odd choice of product for a gaming peripheral company to make, but the pandemic has led to many companies branching out into face masks, particularly branded ones. Razer’s experience withdifferent types of gearappears to be paying off in sheer versatility, as the Razer Zephyr supports replaceable filters, features rechargeable ventilators, and comes with a wireless charging case with UV sterilizer on top of being meant for daily use. It can also take advantage of 16.8 million colors and a suite of effects thanks to Razer Chroma RGB, which may make it one of the most visually stunning face masks out there. Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan warns that there will be limited quantities of the mask available from the beginning, so the brand is planning to build a database of customers interested in purchasing the Zephyr and will let them know directly when units become available.
