It’s no surprise thatRed Dead Redemption 2is filled with secrets, but except for some that seem unsolvable (likeRDR2’s meteorites), most of these are old hats at this point. That doesn’t mean players aren’t still finding new mysteries and/or potential clues though.
The latest seems to be a brand newRed Dead Redemption 2mystery, one that has flown under the radar for quite some time, and it is a certain collection of clocks.

Red Dead Redemption 2is an incredibly detailed game, so when a clock actually features the incorrect Roman numerals, it’s going to be noticed. And it was. Not long after release, players noticed that the Reutlinger Pocket Watch featured the Roman numerals for 13 where the 8 should be. This was considered a small mistake, made likely to developer oversight. But recently, players have found something potentially related.
While there are potentially more yet undiscovered,Red Dead Redemption 2players have found 13 alarm clocks that do not feature the number 11, but the number 13 instead. Since these aren’t an issue with a single clock, coming from different brands orchapters inRed Dead Redemption 2, many players have taken it to be yet another mystery or clue and are trying to piece it all together. No other clock, besides the Reutlinger, has any issues like this—based on one player who apparently spawned all the clocks. Because there are so many of them, many do not feel it to be a developer oversight, but instead something meaningful to the game.
Finding these clocks, of course, is just the first half of the battle—players are scrambling to discover what it means, if anything. Some think it could be a new clue in one of the biggest in-games mysteries, includingRed Dead Redemption 2’s princess IKZ, the aforementioned meteorites, aliens, time travel, and so on. Others think they are minor or contain something no longer related to the game, but thus far, here seem to be the leading theories:
Some clocks seem to be stuck, while others seem to be continuous. It could be that players have to find a way to stop them in order to get the deeper meaning, but as it stands, while players are looking into this mystery, the answer—if anything—is unsolved. Given the track record of some ofRed Dead’s longest-lasting mysteries, though, the real answer being inaccessible, removed, or overall small-time seems like the likeliest answer.
