On Reddit, a user named rhunter1980 shared their find on the r/gaming subreddit. In the picture, rhunter1980 said they went into storage to dig up theirResident Evil 4chainsaw controller to celebrate the remake’s release. The controller they had wascompatible with the Nintendo GameCubeand was released alongsideResident Evil 4in 2005. The top side of this bright-yellow controller featured the GameCube’s unique face buttons and the start button, and just out of view are where the analog thumb sticks, the D-pad, and the L and R trigger buttons were located. The Z button functioned as a level on the left side of the controller, with the right-hand grip covered in a blood-like paint. While the saw part of the controller serves no purpose as far as gameplay goes, it protruded from the side of the package and served as a reference to what chainsaw-wielding enemies can do inResident Evil 4.

The post from rhunter1980 received over 12k upvotes on r/gaming within nine hours of posting, and the comments section praised them for their discovery. The Reddi tuser said that at the time they got the controller, the price for it was $50, which was the same price as most video games at the time. However, other users pointed out that the controller, likeother collectibles and unique controllers, saw its value increase over time. With an open-box price at $200, and boxed controllers going for as much as $600, theResident Evil 4controller is not a common find.

WhiletheResident Evil 4remake continues to smash recordson Steam, there is no way to recreate the chainsaw controller experience at the time of this writing. However, theResident Evil 4remake has plenty of chainsaws and chainsaw wielders to make up for it.

Resident Evil 4is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
