AsResident Evil 4is well known for its tense and action-packed combat encounters more notably with the first Village section, many will be quick to mention its memorableCabin fight. Given the majority of the game’s duration is spent fighting alone while attempting to fend enemies away from harming Ashley or taking her away from Leon’s grasp, this was one of the more exciting and unique sections for players.

Cowhead Ganado

With theResident Evil 4 Remakecloser than ever to its release, Capcom has given fans a greater insight into what they can expect, not only during the aftermath of Leon and Ashley’s first meeting at the Church, but the very Cabin fight many have been anticipating since the game’s announcement.

In the original title, Leon and Luis are met by an onslaught of Ganados as players must defend themselves for a certain amount of time, similar to the first Village featuring Dr. Salvador. It appears as thoughCapcomwill be treating this Cabin encounter in the same vein, as the new ‘Cowhead Ganado’ will now be among the chaos.

Leon’s Kick

Whether this will single-handedly increase the length of how long this encounter will last compared to the original is yet to be seen, but considering the aggressive nature of this enemy type, it is more likely to be a case in which players must defeat this enemy before moving on to the next stage. As Capcom was sure to keep secrets within the released footage, there could be a chance that the climax of this stage could play out completely different from what most fans may be expecting.

4Bigger Space

One of the more vital aspects of the Cabin fight previously was the lack of space players had to maneuver around during the time in which Ganados would be rushing at them. It gave players a feeling of panic and desperation, as enemies could attack them from all directions, ultimately leading to this encounter’s popularity. This time around, the space that both Leon and Luis have seems far much more open and less narrow, which is another addition that goes hand in hand with Capcom’s updated controls of allowing players to move while aiming.

Wooden Planks

As this is more than likely an advantage to players' potential success in this area, it will almost certainly be accompanied by a larger amount of Ganados attacking players relentlessly, especially with theadvancements to the enemy’s AI. Based on this, it would not be a stretch for fans to suggest the same expansion of the area be replicated in other unseen locations in the remake.

3Wooden Planks As Barricades

Considering the massive success that theResident Evil 2 Remakewas and still is among fans replaying the game, it is no surprise tosee elements taken and implemented within theResident Evil 4 Remake. In the original, players were still able to barricade openings through doors and windows during the encounter, which is still also present, but the addition of wooden planks stands as a pivotal addition. As this is an item that can be retrieved by players, this would suggest that players can utilize these items during the Cabin fight that were unused and kept in their inventory prior to encounters such as this one.

In light of this being the case, it could offer players more preparation time by barricading more entry points with multiple wooden planks, ultimately leading to less dangerous and risky combat encounters. As the released footage showcases how much more deadly and persistent the Ganados are in the remake, this could be an option many players would opt for.

Wooden Crates

2Wooden Crates As Supplies

During the original Cabin fight, players were only able to gather one or two resources within the Cabin, and also with the help of Luis and defeating enemies to wait for any drops. Within theResident Evil 4Remake, it appears as though there may be more wooden crates throughout the Cabin that are marked with the color yellow which suggests they are breakable.

No longer will players have to equip their knives to break open these crates, but Capcom has implemented a small but pleasing animation that shows Leon kicking the crates open. Depending on the direction Capcom takes in this encounter and throughout the rest of the game, players could yet again be met with surprise snakes or potentially new jumpscares just as the original did with its breakable loot boxes.

Leon and Luis Confrontation

1More Dialogue Between Leon & Luis

In both gameplay and cutscene segments of this encounter, Capcom has implemented a different take on the dynamic between both Leon S. Kennedyand Luis Sera. Leon’s aggression toward Luis before the chaos ensues, suggests their prior meeting that most fans will be familiar with did not end well and that the two are not exactly on the best terms.

During gameplay, the pair appear to be talking to one another, with some of the dialogue showcasing Leon’s new quips and compliments on Luis' combat capability. This will not come as a shock to fans, as Capcom has made it clear that this reimagining of the cult classic intends to flesh out the characters much more than it was done previously.

Resident Evil 4 Remakereleases on March 24th, on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
