Capcom is elbow-deep in the development of the next installment in of its iconic horror franchise,Resident Evil 8. At the moment, exact details with regards to its story are still a mystery, apart from the fact that it will mostly take place in some village, feature enemies like werewolvesand possibly witches, and will feature Ethan Winters and Chris Redfield. Most importantly, its release date is still unknown, but Capcom revealed that the game would launch for the PC and next-gen consoles sometime in 2021.
Apart fromResident Evil 8, fans of the longstanding survival-horror franchise are also anticipating whichResident Evilgame Capcom will remake next. Although there is still no official word on that score, reliable leakers claim that it will beResident Evil 4. IfResident Evil 4is truly Capcom’s next remake, it has a high chance of becoming one of the studio’s best re-imaginings yet, especially after Capcom’s experience with the remakes ofRE 1, 2,and3.However, apart from Capcom’s extensive experience,Resident Evil 4remake may also benefit from Resident Evil 8, given its similar setting.

The Village Setting
Ever sinceCapcom revealedResident Evil 8at the PS5 event a few months ago, the studio made it clear that the game will take place in a remote village similar toResident Evil 4.The game’s official title isResident Evil Village, which goes to show just how important the setting will be in the upcoming game. As previously mentioned,Resident Evil 4could benefit fromResident Evil 8,given that the latter could serve as the perfect testing ground for the village setting.
It is not a secret that most horror games rely on its setting to help give off a creepy environment for players to explore. The firstResident Evilgame has the Spencer Mansion that made players feel watched and claustrophobic. Then there’s theSilent Hillfranchisethat mostly revolved in the town of Silent Hill and its surrounding areas where hellish nightmares await players. Sure, enemies such as zombies, monsters, ghosts, and other hellish creatures are what usually scares players in a horror game. However, one can’t ignore the important role of the game’s setting in establishing terror and the feeling of uneasiness and dread, which are important elements in any horror game.
Now, if executed right, the village inResident Evil 8could just be as important to the scare factor as any of the previously mentioned locations in horror games.ShouldResident Evil 8become as successful as any of its predecessors, then the execution of the village setting would be the perfect testing ground that Capcom could carry over inResident Evil 4remake. On the flip side, ifResident Evil 8proves to be lackluster, then theRE4remake still stands to benefit, given that Capcom could use fan feedback to identify which elements did not work.
Moreover, fan reception could also help the studio identify what other improvements can be made so that it would not make the same mistake in the rumored remake. Of course, all of this depends on how players will receiveResident Evil 8, which is still hard to predict given how little Capcom has revealed about the game.
Will Resident Evil 8 Be Connected to Resident Evil 4 Remake?
Apart from becoming a testing ground to the still unconfirmedResident Evil 4remake, fans are also wondering whetherthe village inRE4andRE8 isconnected in some way. Given that there are still tons of information that players ought to know about the town inResident Evil 8, it wouldn’t be unlikely if the setting will be connected withRE4. If Capcom is really planning to remakeResident Evil 4, then it would undoubtedly be a good idea to connect the two games, mostly sinceResident Evil 7, and, by the looks of it,Resident Evil 8,are somewhat disconnected from the overall lore of the franchise.
ConnectingRE8with theRE4remake would be the perfect way to tie the newer games with the old ones and would also be a good Easter egg that would probably blow the minds of veteranResident Evilplayers. Luckily for fans, it appears thatCapcom will be sharing Evil 8in the upcoming Tokyo Games Show later this month. At the moment, it is still unknown whether the company’s plans for its next remake will be mentioned, but, more info aboutResident Evil 8and perhaps a gameplay trailer will be showcased at the upcoming event.
Resident Evil 8is scheduled to launch in 2021, whileResident Evil 4Remakeis rumored to be in development.
