The recently released set photos for the upcoming filmResident Evil: Welcome to Racoon Cityhave shown that the silver screen might once again be giving the classic horror game franchise another fair shot. While the previousResident Evilfilm series was by no means unsuccessful, it certainly left a lot to be desired from fans of the games.Resident Evil: Welcome to Racoon Cityis meant to retell the story of the first two titles and seems to be set on sticking to the events relatively faithfully.
Based on theset photos forWelcome to Racoon Citythat were released recently, it’s pretty clear that the film is capturing a lot of the aesthetics that theResident Evilgames are known for, so the project has a lot of fans hoping that it will be a faithful adaptation. With its November 24 premiere drawing ever closer, fans are wanting to play through all of the essentialResident Evilgames to refresh what the film might be going over.

Resident Evil (1996)
The game that started it all was described asone of the scariest video games of all timefor years following its release. The originalResident Evilbalanced B-movie camp and terrifying horror so well that players never knew what to expect behind each door: a belly-laugh from the poor writing and hilarious voice acting, or a gut-wrenching scream from a terrifying zombie encounter. The image of a zombie slowly turning its head to look at the camera still haunts plenty of gaming enthusiasts to this day, 25 years later. AsWelcome to Racoon Citycovers the events that take place in the game, it would be a good idea to play through the horror classic as a refresher.
Resident Evil 2 (1998)
Following up the originalResident Evilwas no easy task, butResident Evil 2did just that by raising the stakes enough to make the zombies feel like an unrelenting threatconstantly pursuing Leon and Claire through the RCPD. The game took everything that worked from the original, like the fixed camera angles and terrifying scares, and upped the ante to make a game even tenser. Taking place two months after the events of the first game,Resident Evil 2’s story will also be prominently featured inWelcome to Racoon City, but as the two take place in different places and times, it’ll be curious to see how the film ties it all together.
Resident Evil (2002)
Before game remakes were as prominent as they are today,Resident Evilwas remade for the Nintendo GameCube. The remake brought new life to the franchise as it had never looked or played better than with the new technology that the console offered. Although some changes were made to the script and story, the remake was relatively faithful to the originalResident Evil. Additionally, it’s much easier to access as it’s been ported to plenty of systems including the Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Anyone looking to relive the story ofResident Evilbefore the film comes out, should definitely check out the 2002 remake.
Resident Evil 2 (2019)
Although it took 17 years for the nextResident Evilremake to release,theResident Evil 2remake was definitely worth the wait. It reimagined the series by dropping the fixed camera angles and tank controls in favor of more modern over-the-shoulder, third-person camera controls, while still delivering some of the franchise’s most memorable moments. Exploring RCPD with Claire and Leon never felt so real, and withWelcome to Racoon Cityjust around the corner, hopefully, the film takes some inspiration from the reimagined version ofRE2along with the original.
