Diablo 4is kicking off its post-launch content with Season of the Malignant, but there is a very good chance that players already know when to expect Season 2.Diablo 4’s first seasonbegins on July 20, and will feature six Uniques, seven Legendary Aspects, and the new Malignant Hearts mechanic. Often compared to Legendary Gems fromDiablo 3, Malignant Hearts look to add some excitement to jewelry items by augmenting players with powerful situational bonuses.

ThoughDiablo 4is missing quality-of-life featuressuch as leaderboards, inventory management, world boss timers, as well as an easy way to reset Paragon Boards and Talent Trees, many players believe there’s plenty of potential with its combat and open world. Season of the Malignant is supposed to be the first step towards unlocking that potential, though most fans would argue that the more exciting features are only coming in Season 2.

During theDiablo 4livestream where Season of the Malignant made its debut, keen-eyed players noticed countdowns on some of the images shared by the developers. One image indicated 98 days, while the other indicated 102 days. If the dates are meant to be viewed at the start of Season 1, then the launch of Season 2 would correspond to May 20, 2025. The biggest source of evidence to support this date was unveiled by Blizzard on July 11, as the new Gameplay Guides video showed the official end date for Season 1 being October 9.

Blizzard had already stated that aDiablo 4season is meant to last at least three months, and having a pause of two weeks in-between would line up to the seasonal rotation present inReaper of Souls. That being said, an alternate date for Season 2 could be October 12, if the images from the developer livestream are meant to be taken literally. The new patch rolls out on July 18, butSeason of the Malignant inDiablo 4only starts two days after, which implies that an October 12 launch for Season 2 is very much possible.

Though its theme is currently unknown, players can expect improvements to the currentlybroken Resistance attribute inDiablo 4, as one of the biggest shortcomings in the game seem to be related toDiablo 4’s itemization and Sorcerer class, and Resistances should help fix the issue to a certain degree. Moreover, gems will become crafted materials in Season 2, which will help players save a lot of space in their personal inventory and stash. Whether Season 2 launches on October 12 or October 26, fans will have almost 12 weeks to enjoy Season of the Malignant.

Diablo 4is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
