Making money inSea Of Thievesis vital. Luckily there are some easy ways to get gold quickly. One of the main aspects of being a true pirate is the love for gold. Every pirate wants it and when it comes toSea of Thieves, every pirate needs it. From cosmetics to pets to weapons, most elements of this open-world game require money. The only issue for some players is that gold can be a time-consuming grind to get hold of.
So, if a player is looking for a new cannon or a new peg leg, then they often need upwards of a million gold. Gathering this amount of money can seem relatively daunting and time-consuming. However, with certain tips, tricks, and battles, any player can get some treasure that will happily grant them the gold to make them feel like a true pirate.
Updated October 30th, 2024, by Gemma Johnson:Sea of Thieves is a pirate adventure game that gives players numerous ways to make money, with gold and treasure indispensable to any wannabe pirate. While the Pirate Lord prioritizes glory over gold, earning gold is crucial in Sea of Thieves to unlock numerous cosmetics, repair ships, and more. Of course, making money as a pirate is a tricky business in Sea of Thieves and is often a balance between risk and reward. Some of thebest ways to make money in Sea of Thievesinvolve taking on challenging opponents or even becoming a target on the map. However, there are also less risky strategies that players can take advantage of to make money in Sea of Thieves, as a game that gives players numerous options. This article adds two new entries in line with the game’s current meta, updates the existing entries, and is listed in no particular order.
Cash In The Burning Blade
A Big Ship With Massive Earning Potential
Sea of Thieves' Burning Blade World Eventlets players take charge of the biggest ship in the game yet - Captain Flameheart’s flagship. The Burning Blade is a monstrous vessel with 10 cannons, a front-facing flamethrower, and an Obsidian Skeleton Crew. While players cancash in the Burning Bladefor a decent 14,000 gold as soon as they get hold of it, they can boost its value significantly by completing rituals at Skeleton Camps.
For each ritual that players complete, they get around 26,000 gold per ritual, so that’s around at least 156,000 gold extra in possible earnings, with six Skeleton Camps in total and potentially much more. The ship also contains valuable treasure to cash in, like the Obsidian Ashen Winds Skull. There is also no cap on how many rituals players can complete, giving players massive earning potential, provided they can keep hold of the Burning Blade without sinking. However, it’s a high-risk, high-reward money-making strategy that might not be ideal for all players given the ship is essentially like a PVP magnet.
Complete Skeleton Camps
A Low-Risk, Rinse-And-Repeat Big Money-Making Strategy
Players who want to participate in the Burning Blade World Event don’t just have to seek control of the ship. Players can also make money inSea of Thievesby completing rituals atSkeleton Campswithout possessing the Burning Blade. After completing a short puzzle to unlock the vault and fighting some skeletons, players can obtain thevaluable Orb of Secretsworth a sizable 20,000 gold. Players can also pick up extra piles of gold in the main vault and within two smaller vaults. The Orb of Secrets can be cashed in at the Reaper’s Hideout or via one of the Trading Companies at aSea of Thievesoutpost.
With six Skeleton Camps across the map, players could earn up to a whopping 120,000 gold by obtaining the Orb from every Camp in a relatively low-risk rinse-and-repeat money-making strategy. Of course, there’s always the potential to net more profits when sailing as an Emissary.
Seek The Skull Of Siren Song
High Risk, Large Gold Reward
While sometimes challenging to obtain throughSea of Thieves' PVP, theSkull of Siren Songis worth a massive 50,000 Gold when cashed in with Captain Briggsy and doesn’t lose its value when used as a weapon. However, when no one else is taking part, it’s a way to make a decent amount of money in one go.
It can take time to retrieve the key and chest, so it’s not necessarily the fastest or safest method with the added risk of other pirates getting involved, effectively making the player a target, and sailing a slow-moving ship with the skull on board. However, players can quickly start the voyage via the note pinned to their ship’s mast, and the large reward is often worth the risk.
Stack And Sell Valuable Athena’s Treasure
Get More Gold From High-Value Treasure Like The Chest Of Legends
Players who have reached Pirate Legend status can take advantage by seeking out high-value treasures such asAthena’s Fortune Treasure. This includes high-value Athena Chests, such as the Chest of Legends, worth around 11,000 gold at base value, and the Ashen Chest of Legends, worth up to 15,000 gold. Some Athena Relics are fairly valuable, but players can also look out for Cursed Treasure Chests through Athena Voyages like the Chest of Everlasting Sorrow, worth around 7,000 gold. Like other types of treasure, their value increases substantially when sailing with a high Emissary grade.
Players should be aware that the Chest of Legends sometimes moves locations, with it currently residing with the Fleet of Fortune instead of its usual Fort vault location.
Emissary Flag
A Fast Track Way To Making More Money
Emissary Flagsaren’t a new addition toSea of Thievesbut can give big rewards. However, some players are hesitant to use them due to the crew essentially becoming a bit of a target when sailing around with a Grade 5 flag.
Any player who wants to make money inSea of Thievesshould always have an Emissary Flag up when completing voyages or tasks for the variousTrading Companies inSea of Thieves. The flag grade increases quickly for a bigger, multiplicative reward on loot when sold back to the Trading Company represented. The bonuses are as follows:
33% bonus on gold and reputation
67% bonus on gold and reputation
100% bonus on gold and reputation
150% bonus on gold and reputation
Stealing Emissary Flags & Captain Log Books
Get More Gold From The Reapers
If a player’s a bit of a chaotic pirate, they can steal a flag from an unsuspecting ship when sunk and sell it to the Servant of the Flame at the Reaper’s Hideout. Doing this grants them a relatively good reward depending on the grade of the flag. It’s best to do this with a high-grade flag on the ship, so all the stolen loot will get a hefty bonus.
Sea of Thieves' Captaincyupdate from Season 7 also enables players to sellCaptain’s Log Booksto the Reapers, so it’s worth keeping an eye on the waters for the floating books of captained ships plus rogue loot. While most are just loose change, some can be highly valuable, so it can be worth a look if players spot one.
Gold Hoarder Vaults
A Massive Treasure Hoard For Maximum Profits
One of the best quests to complete for fast gold is the Gold Hoarder’s vault voyage with the Gold Hoarder’s Emissary Flag raised. Together, the crew sails the seas and deciphers clues in search of a hidden vault. The voyage includes intense map reading and puzzles topped off with a frantic stripping of the vault before the door shuts. It’s a fun voyage to complete and gives the crew a few good Emissary grades depending on the length of the job, plus a plethora of chests, ornate treasures, and gold for their time.
Lost Shipment Voyages
Gain Stacks Of Sunken Treasure And Merchant Manifests
Lost shipment voyagesrepresenting the Merchant’s Alliance are the perfect way to make a lot of money relatively quickly. It’s almost a guarantee that one go at this voyage will give the crew a grade-five flag and a multitude of treasures to sell after.
Grab the Merchant Alliance Emissary Flag and accept the lost shipment voyage quest. It takes the player along a puzzle-solving journey to find the sunken ship packed with lost treasures. After locating the Captain’s Key and the Manifest, players will find a tidy sum of treasure to sell. Make sure to pick up and sell the Manifest to the Merchant’s alliance last, before the flag, because that brings in a tidy sum.
PVP And PVE Pickings
Stack Treasure For More Gold Through PVP Or PVE Ship Battles
There’s nothing quite like grabbing a lot of loot by taking it off another player’s ship. It’s high-risk, but more often than not, yields a high reward if the crew is strong and organized enough to do some quick and devastating damage. It can be risky, but also sailing with an Emissary Flag like Reaper’s will be worth a considerable amount of gold and will increase the crew’s reputation dramatically. Just remember that the crew will probably have a bit of a chip on their shoulder for the rest of the game, so keep an eye out and sell quickly.
There is also gold to earn by seeking out and sinkingPVE pirate shipsrandomly or through Trading Company voyages. These often have high-value treasure items to cash in, like Skeleton Captain Chests or ghostly treasure items, which tend to be worth more money.
Skeleton Forts For A Bountiful Reward
Earn More Money Through Some Of The Highest Value Loot
Along with many differentSea of Thievesworld events, forts are a great way to get some gold while straying away from the quests and voyages, such as theFort of Fortune, which is often challenging. Head towards the floating green skulls in the sky, and the ship should sail near askeleton fort. Orange means someone is already fighting them.
Skeleton forts require the crew to defeat waves of skeletons, including bosses. It can be a real challenge, but once that wave has been completed, along with the skulls some skeletons drop, there will be a valuable vault for the crew to loot, such as theChest of Fortuneworth 20,000 gold when made available there. Just watch out for other players trying to get involved.
Sea Forts For Fast Gold
One Of The Fastest Ways To Make Money In Sea Of Thieves
One of the fastest ways to earn gold inSea of Thievesis to complete one or more of the sixSea Fort raidsadded to the game in Season 6. These Forts are particularly helpful for solo players as they are short and not too challenging. They give players a sizable ghostly treasure haul behind two locked doors, including randomized chests and skulls, albeit not as much treasure as found in Gold Hoarder vaults. Players can also utilize the game’s diving mechanics to dive straight to vaults, remembering to sail to an outpost or the Reaper’s Hideout, of course, to avoid losing any treasure.
While risky, it’s also worth players raising an Emissary Flag, such as the Gold Hoarder or Order of Souls Flag, and completing multiple forts in a single session for maximum, quick loot.
Siren Treasuries
Stack Treasure Underwater Away From Other Players
Sometimes overlooked by players,Siren Treasuriescan be a fairly quick way of earning up to approximately 20 items of treasure, including the Chest of Ancient Tributes, which has a decent price tag for a chest of around 3,400 gold at base value with no Emissary.
There are three Treasuries in total, includingSea of Thieves' Treasury of Secret Wilds, so it might be worth teaming up in a crew to sail to each one for a quick haul to battle the waves of enemies, remembering the difficulty adjusts according to crew size. Siren Shrines are often a bit more challenging and time-consuming in comparison, so players who are short on time may find Treasuries preferable.
Seek Reaper’s Bounty Treasure
Get And Sell High-Value Reaper Chests
Previously, one of the most valuable items in the game was theReaper’s Bounty Treasure Chest, which can be worth 10,000 gold coins or more when sold at the Reaper’s Hideout. Of course, sailing as a Reaper Emissary at a high grade can also help increase its value. While no longer the most valuable treasure on the waves, it’s still worth players picking up to help make money inSea of Thieves.
It can be risky business picking up aReaper’s Chest inSea of Thieves, as players' location becomes visible to others on the map, so players are likely to become a magnet for PVP attacks. It’s also a game of chance whether a Reaper’s Chest spawns. Despite this, the reward can be worth the risks and can still be a welcome boost to a treasure haul.
