TheBatgirlmovie cancellation is on everyDCfan’s mind at the moment, with the news coming as a shock to them and those involved in the project. Many have found the situation to be absurd, and it seems like actor Simu Liu is one of them. The star of Marvel Studios’Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Ringsmocked Warner Bros. Discovery’s decision to cancel the film, which was in the midst of post-production.
Earlier this week, theBatgirlcancellation was announced, which left manyDCfans feeling disappointed.Warner Bros. Discovery has decided to endthe concept of direct-to-streaming films, which meant the end of Batgirl’s journey before the film ever saw the light of day. Liu decided to have some fun with the entire fiasco and tweeted a joke about a non-existent Marvel project being canceled. Obviously, some DC fans were not impressed and have even asked the actor to delete the tweet.

Liu’s tweet seems to begin on a serious note, as he apologizes to his fans for Disney seemingly canceling a project titled “Shang-Chi Holiday Special” due to “quality control concerns.” He claims he had already filmed the whole project, and this is when things become funny. “I even designed an all-gingerbread Ta Lo,” his tweet reads as he bids farewell to “Shang Chi and the Legend of the Teen Golden Rings.” The tweet is obviouslypoking fun at Warner Bros. Discoveryand its decision to axe a project that had already completed filming. However, his remarks obviously didn’t sit well with some DC fans.
Many fans jumped to the conclusion that Liu’s tweet was a joke aboutBatgirlas a project and have asked him to be more considerate. TheBatgirldirectors have already shared a statementfollowing the cancellation, and lead actor Leslie Grace has also opened up about how special the project will always be for her. It’s clear that the cast and crew are deeply saddened by the cancellation, and DC fans are standing by them in support. Liu’s tweet, therefore, was not appreciated by many, and fans raised a valid point about the film’s cast and crew feeling dejected. However, there are others who remind their fellow Tweeps that Liu’s comment is aimed at the company and in support of theBatgirlproject.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has promised that theDCEU is now Warner Bros. Discovery’s priority. Even thoughBatgirlhad to be canceled, the conglomerate’s aim is to build the Universe on the same level as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, of which Liu’s Shang-Chi is a part. It remains to be seen what further changes will be made moving forward.
