On Reddit, aSkyirmplayer going by He6llsp6awn6 has put forward the theory that the Dragonborn in the game is, in fact, a criminal that begins the story on the way to being executed for their offenses. This argument is primarily supported by the fact that, regardless of one’s actions in the game, the player will always be attacked at some point by a Dark Brotherhood assassin. This, the Reddit theory proposes, indicates that the Dragonborn must have already had a dark past before the game began that attracted the attention of the guild of assassins.

The Dark Brotherhood has a long history in the world ofSkyrimand players have lots of chances to interact with, and even join, the murderous organization. The fact that this band of killers targets the Dragonborn, even if they haven’t committed any misdeeds in the game, would seem to indicate they did some less than savory things in the past.

The post on Reddit has received mixed responses so far. Some think that the theory makes sense, while others argue that the Dark Brotherhood doesn’t need a good reason to target the player, being violent murderers after all. Still others suggest that the Dragonborn’s history is meant to be a mystery and prefer to leave it that way.

There are plenty ofhorrible things that the Dragonborn can do inSkyrim. It’s interesting to think that they may have committed even more crimes before the game even begins. Whether players buy into the theory or not, many find it fun to continue to speculate on what may have happened in the days beforeSkyrimopens with the player on a cart in the woods.
