It may be more than a decade old at this point, but the might ofSkyrimis still being felt in the gaming industry. Even withBethesda currently working onThe Elder Scrolls 6, this fifth entry in the iconic RPG franchise is still pulling in the players. Sometimes it’s not always for the right reasons, as the game is particularly noteworthy for featuring a lot of bugs. While there are glitches that are harmless in terms of gameplay, there are those that, quite frankly, make the game scarier than it should be.
That’s what Reddit user KriegerGoose noticed, at least. While innocently playing throughSkyrim, they can be seen in a short clip climbing up a roof. Once they get to the top, they spot the game’s courier NPC standing perfectly still on the top beam, not saying anything and just staring at the Dragonborn. When the user turns around to face away and then turns back, the letter-carrying character has disappeared. This causes the player to frantically look around, wondering where he could have gone. As a result, KriegerGoose insists thatTES5is actually a horror game.

Thecourier inSkyrimis known to be quite persistent, being able to track down the player no matter where they are in the world. As an NPC, their role in the story is to be a messenger, and they will often approach at various intervals to deliver a letter that’s for “your hands only.” These usually result in a quest, but the fact that they are able to find the Dragonborn regardless of how treacherous the land may be or whatever dangers await them has turned this particular Tamriel citizen into a meme.
Of course, what the Reddit user experienced is not part of the game itself, but is just one of the many glitches that have been a mainstay of the game since it released in 2011. Even last year’sAnniversary Edition ofSkyrimhad some notable bugs. Like the one KriegerGoose spotted, many of them can be a little amusing, or even a little spooky, but there are those who can break the game, causing players to lose their immersion.
Despite the issues that have been present from day one, and the fact that it’s quite old now,Skyrimis still one of the top-selling games of the current era. What’s keeping it alive is a mixture of it being just a good game overall, the modding community that’s dedicated to improving and adding to the vanilla experience, and the litany of bugs that fans are more than happy to exhibit on public forums.
The Elder Scrolls: Skyrimis available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
