Jazbay grapes are a regular ingredient inThe Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.Its alchemical effects areWeakness to Magic, Fortify Magicka, Regenerate Magicka, and Ravage Health. Ravage Health is effective against trolls and Restoration mages, but it’s an otherwise unremarkable item.
However, that changes when players get the quest “Smooth Jazbay” and have to collect 20 of them at once. At that point, players will discover that these grapes are remarkably hard to come by, at least compared to other common ingredients that grow on the side of the road or in caves and cairns. Fortunately, there’s a reliable source of jazbay grapes in one section ofSkyrim.

Smooth Jazbay
Players will most likely come across this request aftervisiting Blackreach as part of the main quest. A special plant called crimson nirnroot grows throughout the cave system, and picking one up begins the quest “A Return to Your Roots.” Completing this quest involves tracking down a dark elf named Avrusa Sarethi and giving her a big pile of crimson nirnroots.
Before or after completing “A Return to Your Roots,” players can speak to Avrusa on her farm and ask if there’s anything they can do to help. She’ll ask for a total of 20 jazbay grapes, which starts the minor quest “Smooth Jazbay.” When players complete this quest, Avrusa will give them five random potions, and their strength will depend on the player’s level.
Jazbay in the Wild
Players can find jazbay grapes randomly for sale at apothecary shops and inpiles of ingredients in owned houses, but wild jazbay grapes only grow in one region ofSkyrim. This region is Eastmarch, and specifically, it’s the volcanic tundra region just south of Windhelm.
Jazbay grape bushes have yellow-brown leaves and grow extremely close to the ground. In the image above, the jazbay grape bushes have been circled. The purple grapes are visible on the bushes, but they’re hard to see until players are right on top of them.
Jazbay bushes love to grow on flat rocky outcroppings. They also like to grow on paved roads, and so the best way to find enough jazbay grapes is to take the road south from Windhelm into the volcanic region and then search for jazbay bushes both on the road and on the outcroppings that overlook it. However, players must bevery careful when exploring this regionbecause there are several giant camps in the area, and one of them, Steamcrag Camp, is very close to the road.
Jazbay grapes may be hard to come by in the rest ofSkyrim, but they’re easy enough to gather fromthe volcanic springs of Eastmarch. Once players know what kind of bush to look for, they should have no trouble gathering 20 or even more.
