While it may not hold the same level of popularity it once did,Overwatchis still beloved by many. A huge part of that has to do with the iconic, lovable characters ofOverwatch’s roster. At least one personloves Genji so much, they replaced Geralt in The Witcher 3with him.
The design and implementation ofOverwatch’s characters has been one of the biggest draws overall. This has led players to want to see theOverwatchcast in environments other than the brief skirmishes of the main game, and some have taken steps to make that happen.

On the dev side of things, one of the game’s creators has stated he would like to turnOverwatchinto a series of shows and films. On the player side of things, people are constantly coming up with new things for characters. Sometimes these are just cosmetic, like Mei’s protest outfits. Other times, players are dreaming upa whole new ultimate for Brigitte. But one player has gone above and beyond in the game’s Workshop mode by creating a setup that transforms everything. The Workshop creation turnsOverwatchinto a 2-D fighting game.
The mode, titledOverwatch Fight Club, sees two characters pitted against each other across a 2-D battleground. At the moment, it seems the only available fighter is Doomfist, with the mirror fighter just being Doomfist in another costume. Several other characters can be called in as assists, each one another villain of the game.
The trailer shows Reaper being called in many times, along with Moira using her ultimate, and Widowmaker with a cross-arena shot securing victory. Doomfist himself makes a great fighting game character, flying across the arena and combo-ing the other Doomfist in style. Consideringthe Overwatch devs would want Doomfist inSmash, his being a fighting game character is not farfetched.
Hopefully,OverwatchFight Clubwill add more fighters in the future, but there is a question of how that would work. After all, most characters inOverwatchuse longer-range weapons than Doomfist. Still, the possibility definitely exists for more roster members being adapted to fight close quarters. IfZelina Vega can cosplay as Sombra for SummerSlam, surely Sombra can learn to use some wrestling moves in-game.
How much ofFight Clubwill work inOverwatch 2is not clear at the moment, and it would likely have to be recreated in the new game’s workshop. Still, there is plenty of room to innovate inOverwatchbefore it gets left in the dust. Changes are still being made tocharacters like Moira, so perhaps these could be incorporated to grow the roster. In any case, the current version ofOverwatch Fight Clubis available to anyone who wants to try it out. Players just have to go to the Workshop inOverwatchand enter the code BWJ7Z.
Overwatchis available on PC, Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.
