Sega announced the 2023SonicCentral that will provide fans with a glimpse at the near future of its long-running franchise starring the iconic blue hedgehog. The upcoming broadcast followsSonic Central 2022as only the third such event that Sega held to date.Despite being a fairly recent occurrence, Sonic Central has already earned the reputation of the single biggest annual event forSonic-related news. The inaugural edition of the show featured the reveal ofthe best-selling 3DSonicgame of all time, among over a dozen other announcements. Last year’s broadcast didn’t disappoint either, having offered a sneak peek at the Netflix-producedSonic Prime, new details aboutSonic Origins, and more than 20 other reveals.RELATED:Sonic Frontiers is Adding a Fan Favorite Move in the Next UpdateThe third iteration of the show will take place on Friday, June 23, starting at 8 a.m. PST. As per usual, theSonicfandom will be able to tune into Sonic Central 2023 via YouTube and Twitch. Sega shared no concrete information about the actual contents of the broadcast beyond promising a “sneak peek” of some upcomingSonicprojects, which is par for the course. That notwithstanding,Sonic Superstarsseems like a lock to appear at the event, not least because thisnewSonic the Hedgehogco-op game was just announcedat the 2023 Summer Game Fest in early June.
Where to Watch Sonic Central 2023
The date of the broadcast coincides with the 32nd anniversary of the originalSonic the Hedgehogfor the Sega Genesis, so a commemorative announcement of some sort is very much on the cards for the upcoming Sonic Central. Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka previously teased that 2023 will be a massive year forSonic, but apart from the aforementionedSonic Superstarsannouncement, the company hasn’t revealed much about its near-term plans for the franchise ever since. It’s hence feasible to imagine this will all change with the June 23 event.
In light ofSega’s pending Rovio acquisition, some fans might also be anticipating an announcement of anAngry Birdscrossover withSonicat the 2023 Sonic Central. However, that’s a somewhat implausible expectation because the Japanese gaming giant has yet to actually complete the $776 million transaction; even though the acquisition is expected to go through without any regulatory challenges, it’s unlikely that Sega would publicly commit to a project involving any Rovio IP before the deal is finalized, assuming something concrete is even in the works as of right now.
