Where To Get Empty Shells
Whenever players leave their boat, whether it be to visit a random island or populated settlement, there’s a good chance they’ll return with various things clinging to the side of the ship. Some of these clingy items can be useful, such as the oysters. However, empty shells are a more common find, and will make the ship look quite unsightly.
To clean up their ship and earn some empty shells as a reward, players need to take a plunge into the ocean. If it’s in motion, it will stop for them, so taking a dip isn’t quite as dangerous as collectinglightning in a bottle. To drop into the water, players need to move down while pressing the jump button on the lowest part of the ship, or climb onto the rowboat and then jump out. There, they can swim to where the empty shells are attached to the boat, jump, and press the interact key to grab the item.
What To Do With Empty Shells
As their description implies, Empty Shells don’t have a great number of uses. It’s recommended that players visit a merchant like Francis tosell them for 4 glims eachfrom the ‘fishing’ menu. Empty shells will be a big help for players attempting to get the Taking Out The Trash trophy / achievement that requires players to sell 200 items, as they can be collected in abundance, and their main use is to be sold.
There are other potential uses, however. In some quest lines, a character like Stanley may ask Stella to give them a ‘tchotchke.’ The player can hand over any manner of trinket, but an empty shell is an option without many other uses. As such, players can use one to complete the quest without losing anything particularly useful or valuable.
