Starfieldwas first announced at E3 2018, so fans have been waiting at least five years to get their hands on the game. Alex Hay, known on Reddit as Mralexhay, was one such fan who was looking forward to playingStarfield. After theStarfieldrelease datewas announced for September, Hay took to Reddit to express his disappointment that he likely wouldn’t get to play it. Unfortunately, Hay was suffering from terminal lung cancer and died at age 35, months before the game would be out.

Hay’s initial post generated significant attention at the time, and now fellow Reddit user xRissor has brought it back to the spotlight with a new post. The new post summed up Alex Hay’s tragic situation, with xRissor promising to name their ship after him as a tribute. Other users joined xRissor in pledging toname their ship inStarfieldafter Alex Hay once the game comes out later this year.

User Ape_Alert chimed in with hopes that Bethesda will catch wind of Alex’s story and find a way to add an official tribute to him inStarfield. Bethesda has added NPCs to some of its previous gamesin honor of fallen fans, so perhaps the same could be done for Alex Hay. It being so late inStarfield’s development may make this less likely, but even if it doesn’t happen, at least fans can still pay tribute to Hay by naming their ships after him.

Starfieldis going to have a genuinely massive open world for players to explore, so even if Bethesda does add some kind of tribute to Alex Hay in the game - whether that be through a named NPC or some other method - it might take players quite some time to actually find it.Starfieldplayers should keep an eye out just in case.

Starfieldlaunches September 6 for PC and Xbox Series X.
