Capcom is on a bit of a hot streak right now. For the last few years, Capcom has been knocking it out of the park with almost all of its core franchises, withResident Evilnot only getting great sequels but incredible remakes as well,Monster Hunterreaching an even wider audiencethan ever before, andStreet Fighter 6bringing a level of critical acclaim that Capcom’s fighting game franchise hasn’t seen in over a decade. And Capcom isn’t done with 2023 just yet.

Starting the year off strong withResident Evil 4and keeping the fire going withStreet Fighter 6, Capcom still has plenty left to give this year. Next up for Capcom isExoprimal, the multiplayer co-op dinosaur shooter that looks equal partsAnthemandEarth Defense Force, with a tiny bit ofDino Crisissprinkled in for good measure. And ifExoprimal’s core premise isn’t enough to get players hooked, then its newly announced, pretty bizarreStreet Fighter 6crossover might.

Ryu in Exoprimal Looks Absolutely Bizarre

During the recentSummer Game Fest, Capcom debuted yet anotherExoprimaltrailer, but unlike the last few that have come out, this one focused on a brand-new element of the game, its DLC. And more specifically, a DLC featuring a crossover withStreet Fighter 6. During the short one-minute trailer, fans see a robotic Ryu power up, looking very Iron Man-like with a reactor in his armored back. The trailer then cuts to a tiny snippet of gameplay, showing this robotic Ryu pushing back a triceratops with an energy blast and literally hadoukening a Tyrannosaurus rex in the mouth.

As if oneStreet Fightercrossover characterwasn’t enough, the trailer then cuts to a robotic version of Guile diving through the sky. It feels important to note that despite their robotic overhaul, both Ryu and Guile are still rocking their usual hairdos. Based on this reveal trailer, it seems as though Ryu and Guile aren’t new playable characters inExoprimal, but rather cosmetic skins that go over the top of a pre-existing exosuit, evidenced by Guile’s blade arms, potentially taken from the Zephyr suit.

Guile Exoprimal

Ryu in Exoprimal Could Be Just the Tip of the Iceberg

It’s been rumored that these robotic versions ofRyu and Guilewill also be coming toStreet Fighter 6as downloadable skins, which would be a great bit of cross-promotion for both franchises. What makes this announcement even more interesting is that at the end of theExoprimalxStreet Fightercrossover trailer, a line of text appears above both games' logos, reading “Capcom Collab 1”. While nothing official has been stated just yet, this would seemingly confirm the existence of more collaborations between Capcom franchises in the near future.

With Capcom releasing so many high-quality video games recently, it only makes sense that the publisher would want to promote its franchises as much as possible, and maybe the best way to do that is by creating bizarre crossovers like these. A Blanka appearance inResident Evil 4’s Mercenary mode wouldn’t exactly make a lot of sense, but it certainly would get people talking, and really, that’s all that matters when trying to market a game.

Thankfully, Capcom probably won’t keep fans in suspense for too long, as itsCapcom Showcase is right around the corner, airing on Monday, June 12. Hopefully by the end of the showcase fans will know a bit more about thisExoprimalcrossover, and get a better picture of these Capcom Collabs on the whole.

Street Fighter 6is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
