According to Speedrun.com, this represents the third time that someone has managed to beat the game in less than 4:55. While this latest video is not the world record, it is milliseconds from toppling the number one spot. A report from The Gamer says that runners are now edging ever closer to the “fastest time possible,” with each run shaving off valuable frames. Allegedly, the time to aim for is 4:54:26, so all three players are so close to achieving this goal.

If this frame-perfect time does get reached by someone, it could spell the end of speedruns for the iconic platformer. Of course, there are other ways for people to challenge themselves. For example, one person managed tospeedrunSuperMariousing just one hand. With a time of 4:57:676, it’s just three seconds off the top three records, and the fact that they were able to do it with just one hand is immensely impressive. Evidently, fans are more than keen to inject something a little different in their runs. OneElden Ringplayer even managed to finish the game using a piano.
